Gilbert Arenas Jr., the former professional basketball player, while playing for the Washington Wizards faced a suspension for a significant part of the 2009-10 NBA season due to handgun violations arising from an incident on December 24, 2009, and for subsequent actions that seemed to downplay the gravity of this episode.

On December 24, 2009, reports surfaced indicating that he had confessed to storing unloaded firearms in his locker at the Capital One Arena and had handed them over to team security, violating NBA rules prohibiting the presence of firearms in an arena. Furthermore, on January 1, 2010, additional reports revealed that Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton had drawn guns at each other.
