“He’s a LIAR..it’s bullsh*t” Gilbert Arenas denies Mark Cuban’s claim of almost acquiring Kobe Bryant

Throughout Kobe Bryant’s 20-year career with the Los Angeles Lakers, there were many ups and downs. He and Shaquille O’Neal became one of the NBA’s finest ever duos to three-peat in the early 2000s. After O’Neal was moved to the Miami Heat in 2004, following the Lakers’ loss to the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals, the Lakers struggled to find team success.
Bryant’s Lakers failed to enter the playoffs in 2004-05 and were eliminated in the first round in the two seasons that followed. Meanwhile, O’Neal, who played alongside Dwyane Wade, made two Eastern Conference Finals visits and one NBA Finals run (2006). In 2007 after having 3 mediocre seasons post O’Neal leaving, Kobe Bryant requested a trade from the lakers. Having made a finals in 2006 The Dallas Mavericks looked like favourites to land Kobe Bryant, In an interview Mark Cuban states how they almost managed to land the Lakers legend in Dallas.
Mark Cuban on Almost acquiring Kobe Bryant
“I thought it was done,” Cuban said. “I was going back and forth with Dr. Buss. I think he called me… and said, ‘Look, we think we might be parting ways with Kobe.” Cuban explained why the Kobe Bryant trade fell through before it was completed. Bryant was persuaded to return to the Lakers after meeting with general manager Mitch Kupchak. “Mitch Kupchak talked Kobe into staying,” Cuban explained. “It was just like DeAndre (Jordan). Not the same, but when a guy that’s key to your team wants to leave, you’re going to do everything you can to keep him.”
It’s fascinating to consider the possibilities when imagining hypothetical scenarios. A potential dynamic duo with Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki would undoubtedly be at the top of the list of “what ifs” in Mavericks history. The Mavericks did win the NBA Finals in 2011 without having to make a blockbuster trade for a co-star to pair with Nowitzki. They overcome many star-studded teams on their way to a successful title run by assembling a strong supporting cast around their superstar.
Gilbert Arenas on Mark Cuban’s story
Gilbert Arenas, a former NBA star guard, reacted to Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban’s announcement that a deal with Kobe Bryant to come to Dallas was nearly completed, but Bryant backed out after the news broke. Gilbert stated that Kobe was confusing everyone by naming different teams, and Gilbert does not believe Kobe will ever leave the Lakers.
He stated “yeah he actually wanted to go to the bulls yeah but he almost went to the map that was the year Kobe was screwing with everybody tell me he wanted to be traded and yeah uh I’m trying Cuz he had that trade clause and he was just throwing out names because he can veto it he can veto every trade it doesn’t say it doesn’t say who the trader is going to be for but yeah he was saying that it was essentially done and it just didn’t happen the last minute”.
I mean they don’t know what happened right not exactly Kobe vetoed that thing probably yeah Kobe was never leaving Los Angeles man that man was never leaving Los Angeles yeah, he got other people to leave yeah, he had too much power he got Shaq to leave but he was not going to leave never yeah, he was purple and gold”
