Gilbert Arenas is one of those many NBA stars whose life has been all about basketball. He didn’t have a stacked resume or wasn’t one of the best guys out there. But he was someone every team would happily have on their roster. Even though Gilbert Arenas made several controversial headlines during his career. He didn’t let anything affect his game when he was on the court and balling out.

But like every other athlete, even Agent Zero had to go through a sudden change in his life after retiring in 2012. In a recent interview with VladTV, Gibby revealed how he felt miserable after retiring from the game. When he was questioned about how rich and retired athletes spend their day during the first two years of retirement. Arenas quoted: “Trying to find out who the f**k he is.”

Further, talking about his life after retirement Gilbert Arenas added, “Miserable. Yeah, because, like any athlete, from ages 6, to 7 years old, all we knew was one thing. Hoop… School… Summer. I started at 10… From 10 (years old) to 32 (years old), nonstop. All I knew was basketball. That’s all I knew. Regimen: wake up, ball, sleep, wake up, ball. That was it.” Gibby then also mentioned how the transition phase of going from focused to enjoying life cornered him during the summer.

Arenas then discussed how he naturally was stuck in a habit of getting ready for the summer as the winter was about to start. He said, “A week goes by, you know, the summer goes by… I can smell when the season is starting getting little colder. That September smell is coming. So my body naturally gets into ‘get ready for the season mode. Well, unfortunately, there’s no f**king season. But for the last f**king years, my body has been programmed… And now there’s no season and you’re sitting there like, what the f**k do I do with this time?”

But unfortunately, that’s just not the end as Gilbert Arenas also had to figure out what he should do during the early hours of the day after hitting the gym. Gibby was even driving on the longest routes just to kill time and he spent a year doing so. As he said, “I spent a year driving in traffic. Like I’ll buy a new car and I got like fu*king  30,000 miles on it.”

Gilbert also discussed the other problems athletes face after retirement. The most they know and are around in their particular sport. But fortunately, now Gibby is at peace and busy as a media personality, revealing stories to the world while dishing out content via his podcast.

Gilbert Arenas could have easily played some more seasons and he was even wanted on board by many teams. But injuries didn’t let that happen and he had to call it a career in 2012 after his small run with the Memphis Grizzlies. But somewhere he’s at fault for his early retirement. As he didn’t let his injuries heal and went on to play through the pain thinking it will just fix itself in some time.

However, now all of it is done and dusted, and Gilbert Arenas regrets not making some wise decisions around his body and game. He also agrees with the fact that he has robbed himself of his career. It was his arrogance and foolish decisions that took years away from his career and even some good money.
