LeBron James may not be considered the forever GOAT but there is one thing that everyone agrees nobody can beat him in – longevity. Talking about LeBron James’ longevity, Gilbert Arenas on the Gil’s Arena Show, said that the fact that he is playing at such an age will definitely put pressure on players across the league.

Arenas said, “It just puts so much pressure on people…The fact that he’s 39, doing what he’s doing, makes 30 seem like you’re a rookie. Now we have a glimpse of what 38 and 39 is capable of doing, which means when players are looking like they’re slowing down at 31, 32, I don’t know how we accept that anymore.” James will turn 39 this December.

There are no signs of slowing down in James’ gameplay. He is still putting up stats that can make him a contender for the MVP and nobody thinks he is old, probably nobody other than Dillon Brooks. He averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists, which is in itself very huge. Other than a few injuries here and there, there seem to be no signs of wear and tear. During his life as an NBA player, he has never been set aside due to injuries.

A few years ago, it was revealed that the King spends around $1.5 Million a year for taking care of his body. According to Mav Carter, he uses cryotherapy, hyperbaric chambers, and NormaTec leg boots, among other things. He also has personal chefs and trainers, while at the same time following a strict routine and diet. Rightly so, he has invested heavily in his body, the fruits of which he is seeing now, in the later stages of his career.

Last season, during the All-Stars season break, he suffered an injury on February 26 playing against the Dallas Mavericks. Many thought that this was the end of his career and that the injury will prove fatal but the King proved everyone wrong by making a comeback just a month later. Whatever may be the secret of the King, he is still too young and fit to be called old.

However difficult it may be to compare James to any other personality, the closest relative we have is Karim Abdul Jabbar, who played for the Lakers up until he was 42 years in age. Despite this, his numbers were nowhere near what LeBron is putting up now. As LeBron banks on his dream of playing with his son Bronny, who recently suffered a heart attack, it will interesting to watch him in action in his 21st NBA season.
