Over the years, the NBA has seen many legends make their way to the court. As time moves ahead, fans naturally compare the eras and the differences between the games played before and now.
Similarly, the difference between the playing styles of players is also a favorite topic in the NBA world. Likewise, one of the greatest ball handlers in the league has now been dragged into these conversations.
ESPN’s sports writer Brian Windhorst recently claimed that Allen Iverson would not do well in today’s NBA. According to Windhorst, Al would be ‘heavily criticized’ for his style of playing. As expected, the remark received heavy criticism from many NBA analysts and former players. However, Iverson decided to do the right thing and respected Windhorst’s opinion.
On a recent episode of Shannon Sharpe‘s Nightcap Show, Gilbert Arenas reacted to Iverson’s response. Sharpe asked Arenas’ opinion on Iverson taking the high road.
According to the former athlete, the argument is pointless. Discussing something that cannot be supported by facts is useless, as per Arenas. That’s not all; Arenas even acknowledged the talent and showed respect to Iverson.
Great players find a way to be great no matter what the era is.Said Arenas
The guest of the show had high praise for ‘The Answer.’ Arenas believes that great athletes adapt to the style of playing despite the era.
He then talked about the gifted players who have the ability to play well regardless of the time in the league, Iverson being one of them. With that being said, it seems like Arenas has no doubts about AI’s performance and scoring in the new era.
Shaquille O’Neal along with Jason Williams defends Allen Iverson
Brian Windhorst made harsh comments about one of the best scorers in league history. Windhorst claimed that despite playing many minutes, Iverson ‘chucked a lot of shots’ on ESPN’s First Take.
The sports writer argued that Al’s low shooting percentage would result in criticism of the player. Jason Williams, among many others, was upset about the statement. The former NBA player had harsh words for Windhorst. Williams brutally called out Windy for his appearance on the Players TV.
How can anybody say anything negative about Allen Iverson, of all people, or just anyone in general, with a neck like that? He said Allen Iverson was going to shoot 41% in the league today. It looks like he ate 41 donuts.Said Williams
The former athlete came in strong to call out Windhorst to defend Iverson.
NBA legend and a good friend of Iverson, Shaquille O’Neal also came to defend the player. O’Neal and Iverson have shared a good relationship over the years. O’Neal showed his support for Williams’ statement by sharing the quote on his Instagram story. Without actually discussing the topic, Shaq made his thoughts about the topic clear and set the records straight.
