Derrick Rose has been through one of the most unfortunate downfalls. Coming into the league in 2008, Rose was a dominant as well as an athletic guard. Playing for the Chicago Bulls, Rose was performing better than most stars in his rookie year. After winning the Rookie of the Year award and becoming the league MVP, Rose’s greatness had just started to rise. Though during the 2012 postseason, D-Rose tore his ACL, after which he was never the same.

Years followed and Derrick Rose had played for numerous teams. With the majority of his skillset lost due to injury, Rose did all he could to get himself back to his old form. Unfortunately enough, he wasn’t as good as he used to be ever, though he did manage to find roles on certain teams. Derrick reunited with the Knicks during the 2020-21 season. He played pretty well right after his return to New York, as he put up decent numbers. That would change soon, as the Knicks would add Jalen Brunson to their roster. Derrick’s minutes on the floor dropped significantly and was sidelined for most of the games.

Rose played 27 regular season games this year, averaging around five points and one rebound a game. While his value on the court had gone downhill, his off-court input to the team had a great impact on the players. Having a veteran on the team helps the young roster a lot, as the experience factor comes into play. In a recent interview with Andscape, Rose talked about his current role with the Knicks.

“I still got a lot left in the tank so, it’s about being patient.”, said Rose. Derrick will turn 35 this year and with his value remaining as a veteran factor to the team, Rose doesn’t have any plans for his retirement any time soon. Moreover, Rose takes pride in his role as a young coach to the players. “Talking to the young guys. Being vocal. I’m fully invested in everything to be here.”, said Rose.

While Rose is there to teach the younger guys their roles, he also believes that doing so has brought improvement to his craft as well.

“I’m still in the mix… I still feel like I’m getting better. It may sound crazy, but it’s true. I still feel like I’m getting better.”, Rose told Andscape. Going into the current postseason, Rose had been in action in Game 3 versus the Cavs. Though he left the floor with a blank stat sheet.

Rose will gear up for Game 2, as the Knicks will host the Miami Heat. Miami had taken a 1-0 lead in the series after a road win in New York. It will be interesting to see what the Knicks have in store for Game 2 as they’ll look to even out the series.
