“Got ANNIHILATED on backboards” – Skip Bayless berates Anthony Davis, Lakers’ ‘embarrassing’ Game 1 loss to Nuggets
Skip Bayless points out how poor rebounding cost the Los Angeles Lakers Game 1 against the Denver Nuggets.
Anthony Davis and Skip Bayless
Skip Bayless has made his way back to the NBA headlines by criticizing the Los Angeles Lakers after their loss in the series-opener of the Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets. He also has an interesting take on Anthony Davis, as in the matchup Anthony Davis balled out on one end but was dominated on the other one. And, Skip Bayless being the guy he is, he ain’t letting any such moment slide and has rightly called out the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Denver Nuggets got the dub at 132-126. They were leading throughout the game but the Los Angeles Lakers almost overcame the 21 points deficit but were unable to finish the job and get the lead. Skip Bayless has rightly pointed out one of the biggest reasons behind the Lakers’ loss, as he criticizes Anthony Davis. The Los Angeles-based team had a poor night getting the boards. As they were able to get only 30 rebounds against the 47 of Nuggets.
Skip Bayless believes their poor rebounding cost them the game, and Anthony Davis is responsible for that. As sitting alongside Shannon Sharpe on “Undisputed”, Skip Bayless quoted: “Your team got annihilated for 3 quarters, you got embarrassed, you got humiliated even in the end you lost the blackboards 47-t0-30… It was 40-20 after three quarters on the board… It was 22-3 at one point because of the offensive rebounds.”
Further, bringing Anthony Davis into the conversation Skip Bayless added: “AD will show up? Weirdly he showed up in one way and completely no show in the other way. You can’t let Jokic out-rebound you 21-10. You just can’t do it… If you are in many people’s eyes the best player remaining in the playoffs you have to rise above Jokic who is 6’11 to your 6’10 but again you are more of athletic and physical force than what he is. You can not allow your team to be outrebounded 47-30… You got annihilated mostly on the backboards.”
Skip Bayless is very right with his take as Anthony Davis really needs to do a better job on the backboards getting rebounds and second chances for his team. The Lakers in the game on the rebounding end were down 3-22 and 13-36 too. Throughout the game they got only 5 offensive rebounds, so it’s time for Anthony Davis to step up and get some boards.
Can Anthony Davis, Lakers bounce back against the Nuggets?
The Lakers figured out the formula to stop Nikola Jokic in the fourth quarter. But it was too late for them to finish. As with Rui Hachimura on him, Joker was unable to score and even Skip Bayless is riding with this move of the coaching staff.
Rui Hachimura did a phenomenal job guarding Nikola Jokic and probably that’s what the Los Angeles Lakers would like to stick with for Game 2. As Anthony Davis can be around the paint and do his job with some help from the former Wizards’ forward.
LeBron James and Anthony Davis are unstoppable on the offensive end while scoring, the Nuggets have a deep team but nothing is holding both of the back. So the chances of them making the series score even in Game 2 are real. As with certain adjustments on the defensive end made and better rebounding, they can turn the tables around. But AD will have to be locked in and keep balling out.
