The 2022 NBA finals had all the drama, especially involving former DPOY Draymond Green. Interestingly each side won their respective games comfortably with minimum win-margin of 10 points. It was not only a scoring fiesta in those games, but there were mind games also played. Grant Williams reveals trash talk with Draymond during Finals originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is one of the better trash talkers in the NBA, as the 32-year-old looks to get under his opponent’s skin and throw them off their game. So Grant Williams took the responsibility of shutting him down mentally.

Draymond Green was already fired up reaching his 6th NBA final in 8 seasons, and the Celtics were on his target as he planned to play with their minds. So, during the 2022 NBA Finals, Green focused on the influential players from the Celtics roaster, forward Grant Williams chose to make it up with his own dis at Green. In a recent interview with “The Long Shot with Duncan Robinson and Davis Reid,” Williams shared some details of the trash talk between himself and the Warriors star forward.

Boston Celtics were great throughout the post-season; shutting down Eastern Contenders and former Champions in the process. While they were getting ready for the Finals after 2010, they had two battles to win. On the floor, they had an offensively powerful Warriors team, and secondly, they had Draymond Green, who is a master of playing mind games with his opponents.

3-time Champions Warriors team had their unsung hero Draymond Green who thrived on playing more of a passive game on the court. It was equally important and impactful for the Warriors in their previous wins. Williams stated that he did his research on the Golden State star to make sure he was prepared for the war of words on the hardwood.

“I remember somebody told me a story about how he got into an altercation when he was younger, and he was knocked out,” Williams said. “I literally was doing research, and I was dialed in, trying to just throw him off. And then that’s the first time I’ve ever had Dray like not say something back to me. And I was like, yeah, I got one that time.”

Williams continued by sharing more stories of the trash talk the two players had in the NBA Finals, including one where Green told the 23-year-old he was trying to emulate him, but the Boston forward again had a quick retort for the four-time All-Star.

Williams added, “Most times, they only show [Green’s] trash talks. I’m just like, I’m over here. Like, dang, nobody here hears what I’m saying. I’m saying some cool stuff,” Remembering one incidence with former defensive player of the year“[Draymond] said, ‘You’re trying to be like me,'” Williams continued. “I said, ‘How am I trying to be like you if I’m better than you already?'”

Smiling 23-year-old Celtics star said, “So we were just going back and forth. But that’s all love.”  Grant Williams looked satisfied with his performance against Green, but the Warriors managed to get better of the 17-time Champions Celtics and won the 2022 Finals.
