“Every night they try to put me in foul trouble,” Grizzlies’ forward Dillon Brooks believes the NBA referees are picking on him
Dillon Brooks speaks on the unfair flagrant foul he received on his 27th birthday against the Oklahoma City Thunder

Late in the second quarter, when Dillon Brooks‘ hand smacked Phoenix Suns forward Cameron Johnson in the face, he was called for a flagrant-1 penalty. Although Brooks admitted to Ja Morant that he wasn’t sure if he fouled Johnson or not, the officials ruled that the action was flagrant. On his 27th birthday, Brooks, who was playing, was perplexed as to why he had been flagrantly fouled during the play.
All season long, NBA players have had to deal with a lot of inconsistent refereeing, and they’ve about had enough. Brooks too recently discussed how the referees’ actions are affecting him as a player. Despite being a physically active player, Brooks is now forced to hold back in order to avoid picking up fouls. Speaking on the matter he said, “They’re picking on me every night. Can’t play my game. Not letting me play physical enough. It’s every night, and I don’t appreciate it. Every night they try to put me in foul trouble. I don’t like it. I hope it changes.”
LeBron James also blasted the NBA referees earlier this month for their inconsistent call-making throughout the season. James remarked that he found it perplexing that referees appear as if they are unable to decide which violation to call on each play. He vocally complained about the referees and urged the association to take action.
He tweeted through his account saying, “And all year they keep telling me to my face on the court, “I didn’t see it” or “It wasn’t a foul”. It’s not making sense to me seriously! Frustrating as hell man! Anyways keep going, Squad!”

Dillon Brooks and Grizzlies drop their second consecutive game

When Memphis was 25 points behind the Suns, it had one of its worst first halves of the year. Once the Grizzlies were trailing by 29, they started to make a comeback. With 5:18 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Grizzlies closed the gap to seven points, but the Suns promptly increased their advantage back to 14. Then, with 7.6 seconds left, Memphis was down by two. Phoenix defeated the Grizzlies 112-110 in a close game.
After winning 11 straight games, the Grizzlies (31-15) have suddenly suffered two consecutive losses. Phoenix (24-24) and the Grizzlies are now tied in their season series. With 27 points, Ja Morant led the Grizzlies. Steven Adams added 16 rebounds in addition to 10 points. Memphis made 2 of 14 3-pointers and shot 30% from the field overall in the first half. Phoenix, in contrast, shot 47% and made seven 3-pointers.
