Dillon Brooks has dominated the news in recent weeks, but not for all the right reasons. And all of his shenanigans might come back to bite him. As per reports, the possibilities of him not returning to the Memphis Grizzlies are real. Brooks will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and his future with the Grizzlies is uncertain. Many Grizzlies fans don’t want him back because his antics cost them the series, and they ended up with an early exit.
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers kept their head down and put in the effort to get the job done. While the Memphis Grizzlies were busy talking trash, they now have a long summer ahead of them. Dillon Brooks garnered the most heat for their early exit as he wasn’t able to back any trash-talk. He called LeBron James “old” and made claims to knock out the Lakers from the postseason. But nothing aged well for him.
Even the Memphis Grizzlies’ General Manager, Zach Kleiman, knows the real reason behind their early exit from the playoffs. He also probably knows the right guy to blame for it. Reflecting on the season, Kleiman said, “There were definitely some self-created distractions in the series and along the way. We are going to take a different approach (next season).”
Kleiman’s statements clearly portray the Grizzlies’ “different approach” for next season. And, with them having learned the lesson of not making unnecessary noise, their “different approach” might not include Dillon Brooks.
Zach Kleiman refused to talk about Brooks and his future with the Grizzlies when asked for a direct answer. He said, “I’ll hit on Dillon another day…” Dillon Brooks also wanted no part of his return to be discussed this early. As he gave away a safe answer, saying, “They can possibly be good (chances to return) but I’ll leave it to my agent to handle that.”
Dillon Brooks finally opens up about his trash-talking against LeBron James

After getting fined $25,000 by the league for missing post-game media interactions several times, Dillon Brooks finally talked to the media. Reflecting upon the comments he made after Game 2 on LeBron James, he said: “That’s who I am. I’m a competitor. I compete. I don’t think it got LeBron ‘geeked’ up. He’s back in the playoffs, it’d been a little while. He was ready to play.”
With the Memphis Grizzlies’ GM blaming Brooks’ antics for the loss, his future with the Grizzlies hangs by a thread. However, he intends to improve this summer, so there’s no reason to expect him to return as a better player and play with one of the other teams, if not the Grizzlies. But, in order for that to happen, Brooks must do more than just talk.
