Grizzlies make full use of draft day to add Danny Green alongside Ja Morant

JA Morant and Danny Green

JA Morant and Memphis Grizzlies were phenomenal and very unexpected in the last season. As they got a good and deep run in the postseason but failed to get past the Golden State Warriors who recently won the NBA Championship. The front office of the team has done a good job over the last years in bringing some awesome and underrated talent together. They have some of the best young guns around the league on the roster and there’s no doubt regarding their bright future as the road ahead seems good. Their front office has also once again managed to improve the team. As on the Draft day, they made some noise around and brought in Philadelphia 76ers’ Danny Green to hoop alongside JA Morant for getting the job done.

The Philadelphia 76ers traded Danny Green and the rights of their 23rd pick in the Draft to the Memphis Grizzlies. In exchange, the Sixers got De’Anthony Melton who averaged 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while suiting up for 73 games this season. The trade seems fair for both the teams but the JA Morant-led Grizzlies are probably getting the better package in the exchange. Because alongside Danny Green they also brought in Colorado State’s David Roddy. He was the Mountain West Player of the Year in 2022 and has multiple worth-watching highlights and is a potential threat in the play around the paint. His addition will surely pace the game up for the Grizzlies if he’s trusted and used rightly in the system by the team.

JA Morant now will have some help on the offensive end and on the defensive one too. Danny Green’s addition will surely improve their shooting numbers and the young guns would also get a word in from the three-time champion. As of now, Danny Green isn’t healthy as he had to end his postseason run after Joel Embiid collapsed on his leg and he tore both the ACL and LCL in his left knee.

Danny Green

Danny Green last season averaged 5.9 points, 1 assist, 2.5 rebounds, 1 steal and 0.6 blocks per game. He came off the bench and made the difference with his veteran skillset. But was never really able to find a good rhythm with the Sixers. Many expect that he’ll find it here at Grizzlies playing alongside JA Morant, the Most Improved Player of the Year.

The Memphis Grizzlies have already made a good and kind gesture for their new team member. As they made Danny Green’s $10 million salary for the year 2022-23 guaranteed even though he’ll be recovering most of the time. There’s no schedule for his return yet but the guard himself believes he’ll be back in the business by the All-Star Break. JA Morant and the rest of the team are already good enough to get into the playoffs and now adding the guidance and experience of Green will just make them better.

He’s a solid role player who can be in the play at any given situation and swish a three-pointer to get the job done. Once Danny Green is back and fully recovered he can be a game-changer coming off the bench to pace up the teams scoring and even help them with playmaking and assisting. As he can also bring in some wide-open shots for JA Morant while playing the perfect role of a decoy as he is very capable of shooting the ball.
