The NBA draft is right around the corner and the French prospect Victor Wembanyama is already making a statement against the League. The 7-foot-3 Victor Wembanyama is projected to go No.1 on the upcoming NBA Draft and will likely head to San Antonio to join the Spurs. The big man is projected to be one of the best prospects in recent history, garnering hype that can rival that of LeBron James as a prospect.

The Frenchman reached the US yesterday, just in time for him to attend the Draft, Victor made an appearance on Good Morning America and gave a statement that he is not intimated at all to play in the NBA. His statement: “I think the most important is to not step on the court being too humble… If you step on the court too humbled and scared, you can’t do anything.”

Wembanyam has long been dubbed to be the No.1 pick with his height and skillset so different that he defies the traditional norms of what a big man like him can be. Victor has everything in his bag of tricks with him being able to shoot and handle the rock like a 6-foot point guard and his ability to defend have been a revelation to his success in the French league.

He averaged 10.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game in 20 minutes (per game) and have shown up to be the best shot blocker of the league and also shot 32 three-pointers in 13 games.

Wembanyama was originally expected to sit out for the 2023 NBA Summer League but the 7’4 foot big man has a change of heart and will be headed to Sacramento or Los Angeles to participate in the NBA Summer League exhibition games.

Wembanyama has had his fair share of playing basketball as a professional as he has been playing for the Metropolitans 92 in the LNB Pro A league in France. Wemby was expected to miss the summer league as experts believed that the big man might get an injury as several prospects before him like Zion Williamson, Joel Embiid and Michael Porter Jr. have had similar issues before they made their appearances on the NBA floor. Just last season, the 7-foot big man, Chet Holmgreen with an uncanny resemblance to Wemby in terms of skill set and body frame also injured himself in the summer before he made a debut on an NBA court.

This might be Wembanyama’s way of responding to the doubters and other NBA teams who might be in doubt of the massive hype that he is garnering as the big man has already proved to be able to hang with the top guns in the big leagues.
