Trae Young is rumored to leave the Atlanta Hawks this summer with the Los Angeles Lakers waiting to pounce

Hawks’ Trae Young likely to be HUNTED by Lakers, NBA insider tips off a potential trade

Trae Young

Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks have had a souring relationship over the past few months, with talks of trading the all-star this offseason. Trae Young has had an abysmal playoff series against the Boston Celtics; the Hawks are down 0-2, with Young shooting 35% from the field and 25% from the three-point range. The Los Angeles Lakers have been rumored as potential suitors for the out-of-favor star.

An NBA insider claimed the Lakers are interested in Young, saying – “They went out and got tradeable pieces. If the Hawks don’t move in the summer, the Lakers would be possible next season.” The Lakers are still without an all-star caliber point guard, as their best option right now is D’Angelo Russell. They have also made several trades this deadline and have the assets to acquire a star like Young.

I also don’t buy that every guy who signs with Klutch is going to the Lakers, that is obviously not the case. But this is one they have been watching,” added the NBA Executive. Trae Young signed with the same agency as LeBron James, Klutch Sports, in 2020 for athlete representation, adding fuel to the rumors of a trade. The Lakers need a point guard, but with Young’s playoff woes, the purple and gold could reconsider.

The Atlanta Hawks are on the verge of back-to-back first-round exits after going 0-2 down to the #2 seed Boston Celtics. Young had a historically lousy playoff performance last year, and it looks like his streak is going. He has made 10+ field goals only once in his last eight playoff games, shooting a dire 31% from the field and 17% from three.

The former all-star seems to have lost touch after bursting onto the scene during the 2021 playoffs and taking the Atlanta Hawks on a fantasy run to the Eastern Conference Finals. Since then, teams have increased their physicality on defense while guarding Young, making him take more complex shots. Despite trading for co-star Dejounte Murray, it has not worked out as planned for the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks take on the Boston Celtics in Game 3 tonight, hoping to get at least one game in the series and avoid a sweep. Young’s playoff woes are coming after a turbulent regular season that involved locker-room troubles and a feud with the head coach. Regardless of interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Trae Young’s career as an Atlanta Hawk looks to be over.
