Doc Rivers is back in the NBA headlines, but unfortunately, he won’t be back next season as the head coach for the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers fired him after yet another disappointing postseason run. The Celtics knocked out the Sixers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, and now the ownership and management have knocked Doc Rivers out of the system.
The Philadelphia 76ers aren’t wrong for taking this step. As Doc Rivers failed to be any good when he had the superstar duo of James Harden and Joel Embiid under his wing with a deep championship-bound roster, Doc Rivers has been constant only at blowing leads in the playoffs. Now he has blown three 3-1 leads, four 3-2 leads, one 2-0 lead, and has lost Game 7 at home four times and once in the bubble. His Game 7 record is 6-10.
In his 24-year-long coaching career, Doc Rivers won only one championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. He has also coached the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. He’s one of the top 15 coaches in the league’s history, with a record of 1097-763. But unfortunately, he wasn’t enough to help the Philadelphia 76ers get past the second round. As in each of the three seasons he coached them, the Sixers ended up getting knocked out in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Twitter reacts to Doc Rivers losing his HC job at the Philadelphia 76ers
As expected, fans have mixed reactions to this move by the Philadelphia 76ers. Many are happy with this decision as they show their hatred for Doc Rivers. Some are also anticipating James Harden’s trade and the tough decisions the Sixers have to make this offseason.
As per the rumors, James Harden did not want to return under Doc Rivers. But his future is still uncertain, as the Rockets will try to stop him. The franchise and its superstars are also getting trolled for another disappointing end.

Doc Rivers though has great chances of getting his head coach spot back but with another team. As many organizations have fired their HCs this season and are scouting for someone to get the job done. Doc Rivers and his experience surely fills in that bracket but his record in the playoffs and the leads he has blown can have him unemployed for a while. Also, the chances of him hanging the gloves and retiring are real.
