The Los Angeles Clippers, with their extensive roster of superstar players, have yet again fallen short of securing a championship win. However, Sportsnaut’s Mark Medina has reported that the Clippers are still completely dedicated to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Leonard and George are, without a doubt, currently in the prime of their NBA careers, and are undeniably considered two of the best two-way players in the league. Nevertheless, due to various injuries and heavy load management practices, their time on the court together has been limited. Despite this, the Clippers believe that they have an ample amount of time left in their championship window with the duo.
“Leonard, 31, and George, 32, are still in the prime years of their NBA careers and are enamored with their talent as two-way players. Though the Clippers had championship aspirations immediately after acquiring them, they still believe they have years left on their championship window,” wrote Sportsnaut’s Mark Medina. “They view George’s latest injury as uncontrollable since it stemmed from Oklahoma City forward Lu Dort colliding into him in a regular-season game on March 21. Although they don’t believe Kawhi’s latest injury is related to his ACL injury, they are mindful that players often experience hiccups during their first full season following ACL surgery.”
While the Clippers had initially envisioned a championship win shortly after acquiring Leonard and George in 2019, they still remain committed in their dedication to both players, with absolutely no intentions of separating from either of them this offseason, or in the near future.
Despite George’s setback during the regular season, when he collided with Oklahoma City forward Lu Dort, the Clippers do not consider the injury as a controllable aspect. While they acknowledge that players typically experience setbacks following ACL surgery, they firmly do not believe that Leonard’s most recent injury is related to his prior ACL injury.
NBA Fans Argue Clippers Owner Must Trade Kawhi Leonard and Paul George
Fans of the NBA have been particularly vocal with regards to their opinions on the Clippers’ future. Many have suggested that the team should trade Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, citing their lack of success as an indication that it is time for a change.
“He needs to clean house,” one fan tweeted, referring to Clippers owner Steve Ballmer. Another fan wrote, “We need to sell tickets to our new arena which is opening in 2024”.
It is unlikely that the Clippers will deal with either of their two stars anytime soon, despite the fans’ demands for change. Paul George is an eight-time All-Star, while Kawhi Leonard is a two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP. However, the Clippers’ front staff is probably going to make some adjustments this offseason in order to find the right players to win a championship.
