“Now I DONT CARE” Heat star Kyle Lowry gets brutally honest on being ‘Thicc’
Kyle Lowry talks about being Thick on the Vince Carter Show
Kyle Lowry is in the news for various reasons. Recently he was in Toronto to attend golfing event for his former coach Nick Nurse. He answered some of the media questions regarding his ‘not up to the mark’ 2022 season. Also, even before that, he made some headlines at the end of the 2022 playoff, as team president Pat Riley hammered him for being bulky. If you spend enough time talking and reading about Kyle Lowry, you’ll almost inevitably read a comment or see a meme or a joke about his “thick” figure.
So, while appearing on the VC Show, Kyle Lowry gave his current status on those comments as he admitted that it used to bother him a lot earlier. He said, “It used to bother me a lot, it used to really get to me, I’m gonna be honest with you. Now, I don’t care. It actually works to my advantage.”
Listed at 196 pounds at 6’0″ height, Lowry surely has earned, well, an interesting reputation for his body type. Interestingly, it was not just a 1 season thing as it was dragged all over his 16 seasons in the NBA, most notably about the size of his derrière.
Kyle Lowry clapped back at “thick body” critics and opens up his feelings on the same.
The Philly-born star had a very mixed career in NBA. Though he was drafted by the Grizzlies and also spent a significant amount of time at the Rockets, he is particularly known for his 9 seasons spent at the Toronto Raptors. The 7-year pro showed steady progress in the north and became an integral part of their franchise forming a partnership with DeMar DeRozan and later with Pascal Siakam.
But as he came into the limelight, people started recognizing his gameplay and also took a dig at his belly fat. Though he is one of the most talented guards in the league, he doesn’t possess the quickness and flashy moves to please viewers.
But Lowry certainly knows ways to make use of the “fat belly”. Partially due to his frame and partially due to a willingness to stand in front of bigger players, Kyle Lowry also has a well-earned reputation as perennially being one of the league leaders standing his ground to draw offensive fouls from his opponents. He is one of the best defenders in that category. Last season too, despite missing 19 games in his first with the Miami Heat, Lowry still finished third in the league with 25 charges drawn.
Answering Vince Carter’s question, Kyle Lowry decided to give his critics a tour of his accomplishments with the “thick body”. He was in his office and used the opportunity to clap back at the critics. He said, “I’m just gonna be a little bit cocky,For me, a man that’s never been crazy athletic, “thick”, whatever, I’m looking at all-time steals, all-time something else, a 2016 Rio (Olympics) basketball, I wasn’t supposed to have that, I stole it, couple All-Star rings, a couple all star basketballs, “thick” has been good for me. I’m cool with it.”
Carter then shouted out Lowry’s 2019 championship with the Toronto Raptors. Lowry further added, “I embrace it, I love it. I’m happy. You’re keeping me alive. Keep hope alive, brothers… Y’all can create all the memes y’all want.”
There’s no better way to get back at your haters than to prove yourself on the basketball court. Kyle Lowry did just that, and he’s accomplished a lot in his career, facing all the criticism and the struggles he’s facing with his weight and conditioning
