Heat star Kyle Lowry to undergo major body transformation after failing body fat test
Pat Riley on Kyle Lowry weight issue
Kyle Lowry has to go under some hard training as according to the latest reports he has failed Miami Heat’s routine check-up and was found carrying more than 18% body fat. Which seemingly might be one of the many reasons of his below-par performance for his team in the postseason. Safe to say, this means that the 2019 NBA Champ will have to put-in the work in this very offseason to come-back on track with his physique.
NBA players, for that matter all athletes are required to be fit to participate in their respective sport. Perfect body structure, lightweight (body fat), and quickness are some basic requirements for ground activities. But Miami Heat has some stringent rules related to their players’ health and they do conduct regular checkups to maintain the standard set. NBA Lover Pat Riley took over the franchise nearly 3 decades ago, and as per his way of playing basketball players need to cut down excess body fat to play at the highest level. Miami’s veteran guard Kyle Lowry recently failed the test and needs to undergo body transformation.
Miami Heat team president Pat Riley already threw some shade on Kyle Lowry over his conditioning. He also advised him to take care of his body, and how he has to work on this issue during the offseason.

Yet at his season-ending press conference, Riley fired the “conditioning bullet” straight at Kyle Lowry and said that he would “have to address” his conditioning issues going into next season. Pat Riley is not the type to so blatantly criticize his players in public, but his recent public addressing might have embarrassed the Heat veteran.

But to be fair, weight has long been an issue for Lowry. He had an issue back during his Raptors years and it sounds like this problem catching up to him yet again. Lowry, who did work out on the weight gain problem before, will hit the Gym again as he still has 2 more seasons with the 2022 Eastern Conference finalist.
His age could be a bit of a stumbling block to getting back in shape fast enough but known for his hard work, Lowry could make up for that. “The bottom line with me and for me as far as hoping you can get the most out of a player… is that you have to be in world-class shape, you just have to be,” Riley said.
Lowry has already missed time because of personal issues, also his hamstring problem forced him out in early playoff games. But he did make some appearances on the court, didn’t look 100% though. Star performer on both ends of the floor, looked completely shaken by the hamstring issue.
For the Miami Heat players though, this has not been a new thing. Former stars also talked about it and former center player Jeremy O’Neal said he left the franchise for the same reason. Miami’s philosophy is beneficial to the overwhelming majority of its players, and Lowy cold also finds some sort of balance between his routines. There’s no telling how significant changes might affect him moving forward.
In the end, both the parties – Miami Heat and Kyle Lowry could find a middle ground here, even if he fails to maintain the physical requirement. NBA Champion President and Coach Riley might not be used to knowing to bend the rules, but for Lowry, his contract and ability, it could be better to let loose some rules.
