Bam Adebayo says his friendship with Jayson Tatum is the reason why he takes all games v Boston as a personal rivalry

Bam Adebayo opened up on his playoff battles against the Celtics and what made his battle with Jayson Tatum so special. When asked about his emotions when he hears things about the Boston Celtics in his interview with Taylor Rooks, Bam simply responded, “I do not like the Celtics man.” Miami and Boston have had a long-standing rivalry throughout the history of the NBA. Bam has been a part of these legendary battles including a clutch block to win game one of the conference finals in 2020.
Jayson Tatum and Bam Adebayo are very good friends and have played basketball with each other since the age of 12. “I’ve known JT since we were 12… It’s a personal battle right there,” said Adebayo. Adebayo’s clutch block in 2020 was on Tatum himself and he brags that he still teases Tatum about it to this day. “When we play each other it’s a dogfight… I wanna be like ‘dawg I have more wins than you,” he said, on his rivalry with Tatum.
Bam and Tatum have had some great battles in the regular season and the playoffs and Bam feels it is all down to his hatred for the Celtics. ‘Bam Bam’ claims that he actively talks trash during games against Boston but does not prefer to do it in other games. He also highlighted the impact of veteran Udonis Haslem on the team giving the younger players perspective about how legendary this rivalry is.

Bam Adebayo is an important part of the historic Boston-Miami rivalry
Miami and Boston have played in 5 playoff series against each other since 2010. Miami won three of them while Boston won two in 2010 and 2022. These teams played each other for three straight years from 2010-2012 in epic battles featuring LeBron James and Kevin Garnett. Miami famously beat the Celtics in 7 games in 2013 with a historic performance from LeBron while being down 2-3.
Bam Adebayo’s block will go down as one of those moments up with LeBron and Dwyane Wade. That block was pivotal in Miami’s finals run that year as they closed the Celtics in 6 games in 2020. However, in 2022 Tatum got the better of Bam and led the Celtics to the NBA finals himself. Adebayo did have some good games himself that series scoring 31 points in a game 3 win on the road.
Despite game 7 being in Miami, the Boston Celtics rallied together and got the win to secure their first trip to the NBA finals since 2010. Adebayo and Tatum are the future of the league and their close friendship will prolong their on-court rivalry. If these two stars stay put in Boston and Miami, fans can expect fireworks from this playoff series and all the ones to come in the future.
