Brittney Griner, a WNBA star who has spent months in a Russian prison, was Michael Blackson‘s most recent victim, but social media users didn’t think his prank amusing. For many years, Blackson has performed as a comedian as t he 49-year-old is well known for his accent and ethnicity, but he’s also admired for his endurance and comic skills. He’s one of several comedians that doesn’t care about whoever he makes fun of and is unfiltered. He Black is receiving criticism after making an offensive joke about Griner on Twitter, who is out and has been married to her wife for three years. The Phoenix Mercury star was detained earlier this year on suspicion of transporting narcotics.

A Russian court recently revealed its decision about Griner following a prolonged judicial process. The WNBA star’s controversial case has caused headlines all around the world as the court sentenced her to 9 years in prison. Due to the WNBA star’s ongoing legal issues, Blackson’s tweet drew a lot of criticism, to which he has subsequently reacted. Many people found the comments insulting since it may have been taken as homophobic, but also because of the basketball player’s current situation. 

All about Brittney Griner and her muddled situation in Russia

Since 2013, the centre is 6 feet 9 inches tall Brittney Griner joined the Phoenix Mercury after being selected from the Baylor University team in the first round of the WNBA draft. The 31-year-old, who is considered as one of the WNBA’s best defensive players, was selected in 2021 as one of the top 25 players in league history (WNBA). She earned a national collegiate championship and the Player of the Year Award in 2012. She has won two Olympic gold medals, a WNBA championship, and other awards since beginning her professional career in 2013 with the US women’s national basketball team.

Since being detained on February 17 at Sheremetyevo International Airport on the grounds that she may have been in possession of illegal marijuana oil-infused vape cartridges, Brittney Griner has been detained by the Russian authorities. Griner plays overseas during the WNBA summer to enhance her salary and maintain her skill level, like many other female basketball players do. Griner was detained while playing for UMMC Ekaterinburg in the Russian Women’s Basketball Premier League. Despite stating that she had a prescription for the cannabis oil and had packed swiftly, Griner said she had no idea how it ended up in her luggage.

Michael Blackson’s comments on Griner

Naturally, NBA stars and other famous people from across the world have responded to the situation. Griner should spend her prison sentence in Russia, according to some, while others believe the government should work to bring her home. In the midst of all of this, comedian and actor Michael Blackson tweeted something that the fans did not like. Considering that she was recently handed a nine-year jail term, many people thought that this comment was disrespectful. Blackson was unaffected by their comments at all, though. To clear the air, he climbed onto the platform once more.

Blackson was unaffected by the criticism and insults, despite the uproar on the internet.  Once more, he released a screenshot of an Instagram DM exchange between himself and the Olympic champion from 2017 on Twitter. In that exchange, she gave him a selfie of the two of them after he requested one. For her supporters and everyone else who was grieved by her harsh treatment by the legal system, it isn’t enough, though. Many people were not happy despite his attempt to put things right because she has been imprisoned in Russia for about six months at this point.
