Charlotte Hornets youngster James Bouknight has landed himself in big trouble. News giant TMZ acquired pictures of the hornets’ player as he had passed out. He had a bag of Doritos and a Glock Handgun on his lap as he was arrested for a DWI charge.
A day earlier, according to information from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, the NBA player was booked into jail during the early hours of Sunday on the DWI charge. Police reports say Bouknight was found unconscious in a parking deck in Uptown Charlotte around midnight before he was arrested. Police also confiscated a Glock 23 with 40 mm. It isn’t confirmed whether he is charged with possession of a firearm. The player has been released behind the payment of the 2,500 bonds.
Bouknight did make it to the practice season with the team on the occasion of their regular season opener match. As reported by the Associated Press, the Hornets’ player was previously charged in 2019 with evading responsibility, interfering with a police officer, and other charges after a car crash. This time TMZ acquired his photos before the police could get to him.

James Bouknight was arrested for DWI charges. While his arrest was being made, police found him dead asleep with a bag of Doritos and a Glock Handgun. Later he was released after he paid the fines. James was apologetic for being a distraction to the Hornets’ NBA campaign. In contrast, the Hornets’ management remained mum on the DWI arrest of their player.
James was the 11th overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft and is yet to establish himself as an NBA player. When in police custody, Bouknight admitted that he had four tequila shots before he drove home.
Hence, he was arrested for DWI charges since he was in a public area and behind the wheel of a running vehicle. Luckily, he was not charged with possessing a gun since it is permitted under North Carolina law. NBA fans were quick to tweet and some of their twitter reactions can be seen below:
