How one phone call SPOILED Kobe Bryant’s relationship with Karl Malone

Kobe Bryant was known for being a family-oriented individual. He valued his loved ones and made sure they had the best in everything they ever wanted. The Black Mamba was very close to his daughter Gianna, who was well on her to become a top level female basketball recruit. But their fate met a gruesome end that fans all over the world still mourn.
The Los Angeles Lakers legend had many moments that truly showed how protective he was of his close ones. One such instance took place almost two decades ago when Kobe Bryant was coming fresh off his third title. The issue started when Karl Malone, one of his closest friends at that time, was accused by Vanessa Bryant for making a pass at her.
Kobe’s agent and current manager of the Lakers, Rob Pelinka, told ESPN that Vanessa was made uncomfortable by Malone’s words. She told Pelinka that it all took place after she made a phone call to the legend to send his “bored” son over to sit with her and her children. Malone had repeatedly diverted the topic to himself by trying to make a move on Vanessa.
As stated by ESPN, he told her to come over to him and give him a “big hug” as it would have broken headlines in every magazine. She also told Pelinka that Malone kept asking her if she liked him. After his son joined the Bryants during the game, Vanessa apparently went to leave him back when she encountered the mailman again.
Pelinka stated that she asked him why he wore a cowboy hat to the game, to which he replied saying, “I’m hunting for young Mexican girls.” Kobe Bryant confronted Malone during the car ride home and told him to stay away from Vanessa. Kobe and Karl were very close at that point of time and the Mamba considered Malone a mentor as well.
Karl Malone denies having any malicious intent towards Kobe Bryant’s wife
A very disappointed and hurt Kobe Bryant along with Vanessa had informed Karl’s wife about the incident. While Kobe confronted him, Karl accepted everything he had told Vanessa was true. But he denied all accusations being put forth to his wife. According to ESPN, Malone claimed he was surprised by the accusations.
Karl’s manager, Dwight Manley revealed that, “Karl’s response to Kobe’s comments today is that he’s a basketball player and not a soap opera actor and he doesn’t intend to be involved in a personal soap opera,” while speaking to the Los Angeles Times, stated ESPN.
