Charles Barkley gets called out by Kevin Durant over his comments on LeBron James' move to the Miami Heat in 2010

Charles Barkley has likened Kevin Durant’s trade to Lebron’s in 2010 but KD does not believe Barkley has his sources right. “[LeBron] says, ‘I had to win a championship without D-Wade to get old heads’ respect.’ Kobe Bryant says, ‘I have to win a championship without Shaq to get these old heads off my back.’ I hold Kevin Durant to the same criteria,” said Barkley on First Take.

LeBron did end up winning a championship without Dwyane Wade and so did Kobe Bryant without Shaq, however, KD does not believe the LeBron quote. “I don’t remember bron saying this…somebody link me to the article,” tweeted KD in response to Barkley’s comments. Kevin Durant does not feel like he needs to be held to the same standard, and Charles Barkley pulling quotes out of thin air to criticize KD has not made matters better either.

If he wants to be on the level of LeBron, Kobe, and those guys… He gonna have to be the best player and the leader,” said Charles Barkley. The former Phoenix Sun feels Kevin Durant benefited from the presence of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson when he won his championships. Kevin Durant did win Finals MVP in both of his years but Steph was considered the leader of that team. A championship in Phoenix will surely convince Barkley of KD’s abilities.

Kevin Durant is joining another super-team but not on the level of Golden State

KD is joining All-stars Devin Booker and Chris Paul in Phoenix for his next chapter. Having three elite players on the same team with a #1 draft pick at the center is a recipe for success normally. However, the Suns look like an average team without Kevin Durant. Devin Booker has been inconsistent this season and Chris Paul is not his old self. DeAndre Ayton has had issues with the front office all season and looks like he might leave at the first opportunity.

The Golden State Warriors were a generational super-team. The Warriors went 16-1 in their first playoff run with Kevin Durant on their way to KD’s first championship. The Slim Reaper had a Finals performance for the ages averaging 35 points and 8 rebounds in a gentleman’s sweep of the Cavaliers. The Warriors made three straight finals with KD winning two of them.

KD’s time at the Warriors ended in 2019 with an injury in the Finals which was the reason they lost. His time at Brooklyn was incredibly underwhelming and one of the biggest failed super-teams ever. Now at Phoenix, KD will look to change the narrative around his career with a ring. If KD gets a championship without Steph he can finally get the monkey off his back and get in Charles Barkley’s good books as well.
