Paul Pierce, former Celtic player who won 2008 NBA championshop recently revealed the incident about when he stabbed 11 times in a bar in Boston. Pierce said it made him focus more on basketball.

The NBA’s third season of Paul Pierce in 2000 was about to start when it was all about to end along with his life. In September 2000, Pierce was stabbed 11 times in a Boston bar. The former Boston Celtics star went through heart surgery later which saved his life later. Pierce saw that nearly fatal night as the pivotal moment in both his basketball career and his personal life. 

Detailing the incident, Pierce said that he went to talk to some young women in the club. A guy later approached him and asked him not to talk to women. Pierce got into a tussle with the person and before he know multiple guys surround him, stabbing him in the gut and the back, multiple times.

Speaking about the night in the bar Pierce told that the incident changed his life and his perspective forever. “My stabbing incident really motivated me to be on the court,” Pierce said on the “Ticket and the Truth” podcast. He admitted that the incident got into his head and to keep it off he wanted to spend time in court. “I wanted to just be on the court, keep my mind off it. It really helped me lock in.”

On the brighter side of the horrible incident, the former Celtics said that it helped him focus on basketball which was more important for his family and him rather than chasing women in the club. Pierce said, “Me going through that incident, it was just like, ‘Man, I really need to focus on basketball. I shouldn’t really be in the streets or chasing girls or going to the club.’ The NBA champion said that he made basketball his life since then. “I really just need to zero back in on basketball.’ And that took up my whole life at that point from there on out,” added The Truth.

The incident Pierce admitted would have turned both good and bad way for him. He said, “You know, sometimes you go through traumatic things, and it can take you one way or the other.” however, the incident turned Paul’s life for good. “And I just felt like it was a turn for the better. It doesn’t always have to be bad things that happen to you,” Pierce added. Previously, the 10 x All-Star had admitted that he carried a gun with him, he was so afraid. “It can be some good things that turn you. But, for me, it turned me, not only as a person, but as a player too.”

Motivated Pierce played all 82 games that season. He later went on to win an NBA championship in 2008, and an NBA Finals MVP, the same year. Pierce averaged 19.7 points on 44.5% shooting in his career. Along with his 15 years with the Celtics, he played for the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Washington Wizards. Pierce was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.
