Ice Cube’s son ADMITS Kobe Bryant was crudely right about Shaquille O’Neal
Ice Cube's son claims Kobe Bryant was right about Shaq all along.
NBA fans and media alike have always had varying opinions on players and their level of greatness. This includes the potential each player would have been likely to possess. Famous West Coast rapper Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., recently took to social media, to express his own viewpoints on the matter. The post included a video of a younger Shaquille O’Neal performing spin moves and shooting jumpers.
Shaq is a Hall of Famer who has won multiple championships and was one of the most unstoppable forces on the court. Bryant and Shaq formed an incredible duo together as a part of the Los Angeles Lakers, going on to win three championships in a row together from 2000–2002. There was always a possibility of two having won more rings if it weren’t for the rift that had formed between them, prompting Shaq to leave for the Miami Heat.
O’Shea Jackson, in his post, was referencing an interview with Kobe. In this interview, Bryant claimed that if Shaq had had his work ethic, “he would’ve been the greatest of all time”. He goes on to state that players at Shaq’s size were generally timid and shy, but Shaq, on the other hand, was “mean, nasty, and competitive.” Bryant went on to win two more championships as a part of the Lakers franchise, yet he claimed that if Shaq had stayed in the gym when they were teammates, he “would’ve had 12 f***ing rings”.
The potential these two could’ve had alongside one another if it weren’t for their beef can only be left up to the imagination. Shaq had a very dominant and stellar career, amassing various individual accolades, including Rookie Of The Year, MVP, three Finals MVPs, and 15 All-Star game selections. Even with all of this accumulation, his former teammate Bryant and actor O’Shea allege that he could’ve been the greatest to ever play the game if it wasn’t for his laziness. These sorts of topics are always open to speculation, and throughout the years, opinions will vary from fan to fan.
Why did Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant have a falling out?
Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal were one of the most iconic duos of their time and had a dominant run with one another. With them as a part of the squad, the Los Angeles Lakers became only the second franchise in history to win three titles back-to-back.
Alas, not everything is meant to be, as the teammates had a very public falling out, which led to Shaq wanting out of the franchise and eventually being traded. There were always tensions between the two stars, as Bryant had always been business-minded and stayed at the gym to improve his game. Shaq, on the other hand, liked to enjoy his time off and used to frequently come into seasons out of shape but claimed that he did not need to answer to anyone as his numbers proved his worth.
Coming into the second year of the Lakers three-peat, Bryant had blasted Shaq for arriving to camp completely out of shape and requested roster changes in which the ball would run more through him. Shaq still saw himself as the number-one option on the team. The head coach, Phil Jackson, called them both “juvenile”.
After winning three titles in a row, the Lakers start the next season off poorly, with an 11-9 record. This led to poor playoff seeding and eventual elimination by the Spurs. Bryant’s numbers were great, but the loss was allegedly due to Shaq’s poor fitness. The next season also ends in a loss to the Detroit Pistons in the Finals. The duo put each other on blast in the media, eventually resulting in Phil Jackson being replaced by Mitch Kupchak. Mike was open to trading Shaq, which resulted in the big man requesting to be traded and eventually leaving LA for the Heat.
