In a recent episode of ESPN’s First Take, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith and rapper Ice Cube engaged in a lively discussion about the NBA landscape. They discussed the newly formed “Big Three” in Phoenix, consisting of Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and the one and only Kevin Durant. Smith questioned whether this trio could bring success to the Phoenix Suns and compete with the reigning champions, the Denver Nuggets.

Ice Cube expressed his doubts about the Suns’ chances, noting that they were lacking in crucial areas. He emphasized the importance of having a dominant big man, citing the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon as examples. Cube suggested that adding another significant piece to the Suns’ roster would be necessary to contend for a championship.

“I still think they’re small, you know, where they need to be big.” Ice Cube said. “I don’t know if that combination is going to bring a championship without adding another piece,” he added.

Smith went on to analyze other teams in the Western Conference, including the defending champions, the Denver Nuggets, as well as the Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Memphis Grizzlies. However, when he mentioned the Los Angeles Clippers, Cube immediately dismissed them, showing no faith in their ability to compete.

As the conversation shifted towards the Los Angeles Lakers, Ice Cube voiced his confidence in their ability to secure the championship, despite their previous playoff sweep by the Denver Nuggets. Cube’s optimism echoed the Lakers’ active offseason, highlighted by strategic roster moves and key signings. “Championship even though they just got swept by Denver I’ll fix that,” Ice Cube stated.

The Lakers focused on retaining promising young talent like Austin Reaves, who showed great potential last season. Additionally, they strengthened their roster by acquiring Gabe Vincent from the Miami Heat, adding depth to their lineup. Furthermore, the team made a crucial move by re-signing D’Angelo Russell, a player known for his scoring prowess and ability to create opportunities on the court.

With these moves, the Lakers aim to improve their roster and create a team that can effectively support superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The addition of Reaves and Vincent and the re-signing of Russell demonstrate the Lakers’ commitment to building a competitive and well-rounded team capable of challenging for the championship.
