Skip Bayless claims the Memphis Grizzlies would be better off playing without Ja Morant for game two against the Los Angeles Lakers. Ja Morant picked up an injury in the fourth quarter of their round one loss at home; Morant scored 18 points in their 128-112 loss and has been listed as a game-time decision for game two tonight.
“If he does play, I do like the Lakers because I don’t think he’ll be 100%,” said Skip Bayless on Undisputed. Morant was already carrying a hand injury coming into game one and aggravated after an impact landing while going for a dunk. Morant’s fingers could be seen bending backwards, and Ja himself said his participation in game 2 was in jeopardy after the injury.
“If Tyus Jones is started and finisher for Memphis at home, I like Memphis,” said Bayless. Tyus Jones has been a reliable backup point guard option for the Grizzlies with reliable scoring and excellent passing ability. “He’s a stabilizer, and way underrated,” said Bayless while describing Jones. Bayless feels an injured Morant would be detrimental for the Grizzlies and that they would be better off with a 100% fit point guard.

Although Morant has publicly acknowledged that his hand is in excruciating discomfort, the Los Angeles Lakers injury report has him categorized as questionable with right-hand soreness. Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins also said that Morant will be a game-time decision, so it would undoubtedly be a test of his pain tolerance.
Even if Ja Morant were to suit up, the Memphis Grizzlies would have a tough time taking on the Los Angeles Lakers without Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke. Anthony Davis, perhaps the finest rebounder in the NBA, plays for the Lakers, one of the top six rebounding teams in the league. Before becoming hurt, Steven Adams was a top-six rebounder and the best offensive rebounder in the NBA.
The Memphis Grizzlies must play better basketball against the Los Angeles Lakers, whether Ja Morant suits up.
