The NBA 2023 Draft is just weeks away, and Charlotte Hornets fans are demanding their franchise to select Scoot Henderson with their #2 overall pick. Scoot Henderson is an incredibly athletic point guard coming from the G-League Ignite. Scoot would have been the #1 overall pick in any other draft that did not involve the French unicorn Victor Wembanyama.
Henderson worked out with the Portland Trail Blazers, who have the third overall pick in the draft, and the team released a mixtape of him hooping. His bounce, quick step, and shot-making ability caught the eye of NBA fans. The Charlotte Hornets already have a lottery pick point guard in Lamelo Ball, so they were rumored to stay away from Scoot. Thus he worked out with the next highest draft pick.
However, after working out with the Charlotte Hornets this week, Henderson has reportedly increased his stock to get drafted #2 overall. @DraftExpress on Twitter said – “Scoot Henderson helped his standing in Charlotte with a highly impressive workout, showing an impressive level of conditioning, intensity, explosiveness and shot-making.” This fired up Hornets fans, who have been adamant that they draft Henderson as he is simply the second-best player in this draft, and they possess the 2nd overall pick.

Hornets fans will not forgive their franchise for missing out on Scoot Henderson
The Charlotte Hornets are a franchise that has never even made the Conference Finals in their history, and fans seem to have had enough of their draft blunders. One fan on Twitter said – “I speak for every Hornets fan when I say WE WANT SCOOT,” as the fans have been lacking an explosive star athlete on their roster. Despite Lamelo Ball being a success, his injury record and lack of physicality limit his game, unlike Scoot Henderson.
“He should be 2. He’d be 1 in any of the most recent classes other than Zion. Hornets shouldn’t draft for fit. Look what happened with wiseman and golden state,” said one fan, pointing out Henderson’s talent. The Hornets would miss out on him if they drafted by fit, making them select a non-point guard, which led Lamelo Ball to fall to them as the Golden State Warriors refused to draft Lamelo Ball in 2020 while having Stephen Curry.
One fan said that Michael Jordan needs to take action if Henderson isn’t drafted, tweeting, – “If they don’t draft him MJ needs to crucify their entire front office.” Jordan is looking to sell the Hornets but has not found a buyer yet; however, he could change his mind if he can be around while they draft a talent like Henderson. Henderson and Lamelo play the same traditional position, but in an era of position-less basketball, quality is always prioritized over fit.
