The Philadelphia 76ers swept the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the playoffs. Led by Joel Embiid, the Sixers now advance to the second round of the postseason. The Sixers made the series look easy, as they beat the newly formed Nets team. Players like James Harden and Tobias Harris went off as well, being the primary shooters of the team.

Embiid averaged 20 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in the three games he played in the series. The anticipated MVP was having just the postseason, but tragedy struck. Joel suffered an injury in Game 3, and he was ruled out to play the last game to close out the series. The Sixers had no such problem without Embiid versus the Nets, but it would be a problem if he sits out in any of the second-round games.

The Sixers will play the winner of the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks series. From the looks of it, Philly will play the Celtics led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Sixers’ condition doesn’t seem so good as Embiid’s injury update comes in. Embiid has suffered an LCL sprain and is hopeful to return at the beginning of the second round, though even then he’ll have to play through the pain.

This is an alarming situation for Sixers fans as the team has never made it past the second round in the last five years. However, the team doesn’t look so bad without Embiid on the floor. Harden, Maxey, and Tobias Harris have been playing their role pretty well. If they continue to perform the same, the Sixers might be able to hold off the Celtics’ scorers.

Embiid has had a great season and is the most probable pick for this year’s MVP award. Being injured in the middle of the playoffs is an unfortunate situation for him as well as the team.

Philly has never been to the Conference Finals since Embiid’s arrival. Though this year, the team’s chances looked pretty solid until the injury report came out. The news had Sixers fans on Twitter questioning their luck. Here are some of the reactions:

Philly is the first team so far that has advanced to the second round. Though Embiid’s status after his return is not confirmed yet. He might come off the bench or play under minute restrictions if the pain increases.
