“Can’t keep this man away from DRUGS” Iman Shumpert arrested for Marijuana possession in Dallas

Iman Shumpert
Iman Shumpert, a 10-year NBA veteran and Dancing With The Stars champion, was detained at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport on a felony marijuana charge. The 32-year-old was detained on Saturday, July 30 after police were sent to the airport in response to a probable narcotics violation report, according to court records. During a secondary check and screening of Shumpert and his possessions, cops reported detecting a large amount of a green leafy material inside a backpack when they met up with TSA officials inside the airport. While speaking with airport security, Shumpert acknowledged the backpack contained marijuana and asked whether he could still make his Delta Airlines trip as he had arranged to visit his daughter in Los Angeles.
Former NBA champion Shumpert is the most recent athlete to make news for their use of recreational substances. He would eventually be taken into custody and put under arrest for marijuana possession. The 6’5″ guard was reportedly handcuffed and taken to the prison, according to the report. Shumpert’s problems would only get worse when the police allegedly discovered a Glock magazine and 14 9mm bullets in his backpack. Texas does not view marijuana as being lawful on a federal level, despite the fact that numerous US states have legalized it for both medical and recreational purposes.
Iman Shumpert’s NBA career in a nutshell

Iman Shumpert, a 32-year-old basketball player, rose to prominence after being selected by New York with the 17th overall choice in the 2011 NBA Draft. After his rookie season, he was named to the All-Rookie First Team. With the Knicks, Rockets, and Cavaliers, Shumpert has played in 79 postseason games over his career. He also won the NBA Championship (2016) with Cleveland. He has previously played with the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings. Most recently, Shumpert was back with the Brooklyn Nets, where he played one game before being released.
The NBA champion, who played for the Brooklyn Nets most recently during the 2020–21 season, averaged 7.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game throughout his career. He also made history last year when he won the Dancing with the Stars finals, being the first basketball player to ever do so. He dedicated his win to his mother, L’Tanya Shumpert.

Shumpert was charged with a “state jail felony,” which carries a maximum penalty of $10,000 in fines and if found guilty, Shumpert could spend two years in prison. Shumpert didn’t have a gun when he was caught, but the police noted that he did have a Glock magazine and 14 9mm bullets in his backpack. Shumpert was accused of driving while intoxicated with marijuana in 2016. The Illinois native has already been afoul of the law, so this wasn’t the first time.
The future course of this situation is yet uncertain. While certain states in the US, like California, have legalized marijuana, it is obvious that Texas is not one of those places. There are a lot of athletes that do consume cannabis, and some of them even run cannabis-related companies. Hopefully, the authorities will provide us with an update on Iman Shumpert’s predicament in the near future, and we’ll watch to see if this issue is swiftly rectified. Shumpert could have a difficult time getting himself out of this one given his history of drug-related offenses.
