Dillon Brooks has played for the Memphis Grizzlies for the entirety of his career. He was drafted by the Houston Rockets in 2017, though he was traded to the Grizzles right after. His first few seasons were pretty quiet, though as time went by, Brooks improved significantly. In the past few years, Brooks’ popularity has risen. But it wasn’t his game that got the most attention. Brooks’ aggressiveness on the court and “villain” tendencies have resulted in several altercations, giving fans a better understanding of him.
In 2020, Brooks signed a 3-year $35 million contract extension with Memphis. With the player playing his last season before becoming a free agent, fans are left wondering where he’d land by the start of the 2023-24 season. So far, no NBA team is rumored to offer him a contract. However, there are a few teams overseas who seem interested in acquiring his talents.
The Memphis Grizzlies are down 1-3 versus the Los Angeles Lakers this postseason. The chances of them advancing to the next round are slim, though if Dillon Brooks can prove anything about his game, it would be in this very situation. Fans on social media have already found a few teams interested in signing Brooks, but they all are overseas. A recent post on social media shows an Indonesian basketball team commenting on Brooks’ potential overseas signing next season.
The Rans Pik basketball team is a professional team in Indonesia that commented, “Nooo! Not us” on a post about three Indonesian teams being interested in him. There have been quite a lot of players who have signed with teams overseas, after which they do come back to the NBA. Brooks has faced a lot of hate in the past two seasons. There have been multiple times that he’s been ejected from the game for his actions. There won’t be much surprise among fans if he does decide to play overseas the next season.
A playoff team would be a good fit for Dillon Brooks
If Brooks is to stay in the league, a playoff team, not necessarily a title contender, would be a great fit for him, considering his competitive spirit. Teams like the Los Angeles Clippers in the West and Brooklyn Nets in the East would be a great option for him. Looking at his stats, Brooks does help in scoring as well as rebounding. Teams looking for a scoring backup and defensive hound would definitely offer Brooks a contract following this postseason.
With the Grizzlies not having the best chances to go ahead in the playoffs, the team will look to re-sign Brooks. However, a recent report emerged where NBA Insider Tim MacMahon of ESPN suggested that the franchise might look to move on from the player. Other teams will definitely have some interest, but only time will tell whether there will be more offers on the table. Which team do you want Brooks to play for next season? Let us know in the comments.
