Lonzo Ball’s knee injury has sidelined him for the entire season, but he’s still finding ways to enjoy life. The Bulls guard recently jetted off to Bora Bora with his girlfriend, Ally Rossel, for some tropical relaxation.
Ball, who signed a four-year, $85 million deal with Chicago Bulls in 2021, suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee on Jan. 14, 2022. He underwent surgery the following month, hoping to be back on the court in two months. But his recovery was complicated by persistent pain and swelling in his knee. He had another surgery in September 2022, but it failed to fix the problem. He opted for a third surgery in March 2023, a cartilage transplant that could save his career.
Ball’s future with the Bulls is uncertain, as the team announced that he may miss the entire 2023-24 season as well. He is still rehabbing his knee and has no timetable for his return. He will be a restricted free agent in 2025.
NBA Twitter trolls injury hit Lonzo Ball for his TikTok video with girlfriend
While Ball is away from basketball, he and Rossel are having fun in Bora Bora. They shared a Tiktok video on Rossel’s account, flaunting their fashion choices in the island paradise. The video went viral on TikTok and Twitter with over 2.2 million views and thousands of comments just on Twitter. But some of them were not so flattering.
Many fans criticized Lonzo Ball for his injury and his absence from the court. Here are some of the fan reactions:
Ball was a vital piece of the Bulls’ success before his injury, putting up 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game on 42% shooting from both the field and beyond the arc. He teamed up with Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan to form a potent trio, propelling the Bulls to a 27-13 record at the time of his injury, the best in the East.
But the Bulls couldn’t sustain their level of play without Ball, and they slipped to a 44-38 record by the end of the season, falling in the first round of the playoffs to the Nets.
Ball and Rossel’s Tiktok video may have been a lighthearted way to show off their vacation to their followers, but it also drew a lot of criticism and mockery from some fans who are frustrated with his injury status and his future with the Bulls. Ball may need to show his worth on the court again before he can win back their respect and support.
