Victor Wembanyama played against one of the best centers in the NBA today. Anthony Davis is half a foot shorter than Wembanyama at 6 ft 10 inches compared to Wemby’s 7ft 4 inches. Their matchup made fans look forward to the heavyweight clash.

In this game, a battle-tested and bona fide superstar, Davis showed Wembanyama what an elite big can do. Despite the height disadvantage, Davis proceeded to drive toward the basket with Wembanyama guarding him and throw down a slam dunk. The way Davis created space to discredit the height disadvantage and dunk down hard became a highlight reel play.

Anthony Davis had a monster first half in this game. He scored 24 points in the first quarter. It is the highest point for any Los Angeles Lakers player so far this season. With LeBron James rested, Davis had to lead the Lakers. Dunking on Wembanyama early set the tone that Davis wanted to be the alpha of the contest. This is despite getting his foot hurt 37 seconds into the game. Davis finished the game with 37 points and ten rebounds in the win.

A bad run of games for the San Antonio Spurs has not helped Victor Wembanyama in his development so far this season. Averaging 18.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game is not superstar-level production. But it is still an early season for every player. Wembanyama has time to adapt to the league and how the game is played in the NBA. Then maybe the tables can be turned.

Not often can one see a shorter player dunking on Victor Wembanyama. Given his 8-foot wingspan and a keen eye for blocking shots, it is difficult for opposing players to throw one down. Davis used his weight advantage and skill to create enough space to avoid a block from Wembanyama.
