Skip Bayless slams the Rudy Gobert trade and claims the Minnesota Timberwolves gave up their future for a guy who is not even that good

Is Rudy Gobert the worst trade of the season? Skip Bayless wants to know, “What were the Wolves thinking?”

Rudy Gobert

Rudy Gobert was dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves last offseason to form a duo with fellow big-man Karl Anthony Towns, but Skip Bayless feels it might have been the worst trade of the season. “I think a lot of people in this league think he plays like the b-word,” said Skip on Undisputed regarding Kyle Anderson calling Gobert a b***h after their altercation.

The Timberwolves lost in the first round last season and paid a huge price to get the 3x Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert. “He’s supposed to be the perfect shot blocker. You go at his chest, he’s going to fall backward,” said Skip on Gobert’s defensive skills, which got him traded for in the first place. The Timberwolves gave up four first-round picks only to end up in the play-in tournament like last year.

Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley were amongst the players traded for Gobert, and both of them will face the Timberwolves in their play-in match against the Los Angeles Lakers. “The Gobert trade looks like: “What were you thinking?”,” said Skip Bayless on Twitter. Rudy Gobert will face suspensions from the Timberwolves for his actions making the organization regret the trade even more day by day.

The French center has found himself off the court for the Timberwolves most crucial game of the season yet. However, it could be a blessing in disguise as the Wolves have a better record without Gobert this season than with him, as they are 8-4 without him compared to 34-36 with him. Despite the smaller sample size, Gobert had had a similar trend on previous teams as he had issues with Donovan Mitchell at Utah.

The Wolves made it out of the play-ins last year with a surprise upset against the Los Angeles Clippers and will look to break Californian hearts again. However, LeBron James has played only one play-in game in his career and won it and would want to keep his 100% record intact. The Lakers are on a hot streak right now, and with a disoriented Timberwolves team, they certainly are favorites.

The play-in tournament will start on 11th April, with the Atlanta Hawks taking on the Miami Heat, followed by the Wolves and Lakers matchup. The Lakers will look to make the playoffs after missing out completely last year. If the Lakers manage to win, the Gobert trade will start to look very embarrassing for Minnesota. However, a win would lift their spirits and set them up for a first-round series against the Memphis Grizzlies.
