Ja Morant is once again in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver suggested that the Memphis Grizzlies guard would face suspension for the second time this year for flashing a gun in an Instagram live. Although he did not specify the length of games that Morant would be out for, but the 61-year-old stated that an official decision would only be announced after the end of the NBA Finals.
According to Sam Amico of Hoops Wire, the suspension could be for the first half of the season. Morant had earlier received an eight-game suspension for a similar offense. Since the infamous Instagram Live became public, the Grizzlies have suspended the two-time All-Star from all team activities. He posted cryptic photos of him with his family, which scared a lot of fans. However, on the Tennessee Police’s welfare check, they confirmed that he was doing good and would be taking a break from social media for a while.
A lot of experts have given their take on the situation. Although the opinions are contrasting, Silvers‘ comments during the press conference before Game 1 confirmed that the league would take serious action against him. “We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information. We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we’ve made the decision that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce that decision in the middle of this series,” said Silver on speaking about Ja Morant.

Basketball fans were not happy about the situation and expressed their views on Twitter. One user said, “We need to protect our children, that thug needs to be jailed!” Some fans backed Morant and stated that a lengthy punishment would be a harsh one. Whatever the suspension, Ja Morant would undoubtedly have to turn things around when he gets back into action. He is a stellar player, but if he has to continue elevating in the league, he will have to behave well off the court as well. Here are some of the Twitter reactions to the latest update on the Ja Morant situation.
Morant is one of the biggest stars in the league. His game is elite, and he certainly has a lot to offer to the NBA. However, the league has always been vocal about its stance on gun-related violence.
