The 2022 NBA Playoffs had all the drama, as underdogs Golden State Warriors won the title against young teams from the East and West. One of the teams that were thrashed by the champions was Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Semis. But it surely was a very close and entertaining series that the Warriors had to play in the postseason. Memphis marquee star, Ja Morant opened up once again about their highly intense and physical fight with the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 playoffs as the series got hotter and hotter. It also included suspensions and injuries that may have affected the series. Talking about injuries, Ja Morant recalled his controversial “broke the code” tweet that was seemingly directed at the Warriors Guard Jordan Poole.

For those who are not aware of the situation, Morant was forced to exit Game 3 of the second-round showdown due to a knee injury. Following his departure, videos of Poole grabbing Morant’s knee earlier in the game surfaced. After the video, fans directed huge criticism toward the Warriors’ young guard for causing the injury. And Ja Morant was also convinced that it was intentional rather than “an accident”.

The Grizzlies’ medical staff also updated Ja about the cause of the injury, which made him very angry and he then used the “broke the code” tweet. The specific “Broke the code” wordings were used earlier in the series by Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr, when he released a statement against Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks caused the injury of Gary Payton II earlier in the same series.

Memphis Grizzlies against Golden State Warriors was really an exciting matchup in the 2022 postseason, as both the teams were loaded with immense talent, and had equal chances of winning the series. But injuries to Gary Payton II, Ja Morant, and the Suspension of Dillon Brooks made a huge impact on the series, as finally, Golden State Warriors had better if the Grizz Stars in 6 games.

More than anything, Ja Morant’s injury hampered Memphis’ chances in the series, and the 22-year “most improved player” was certain that it was an intentional attempt to injure him and sent a ferocious tweet over the same. However, Morant deleted the tweet and has since moved on from the issue. Very recently in an interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report, the 22-year-old guard shared why he deleted the tweet.

Talking about the reasons and his thought process at the time, Morant said, “Obviously, I was frustrated how I got hurt. I sent the tweet. I actually — once again, my mom came into play like, ‘No, delete it.’ Then I seen people start trying to talk trash like, ‘Oh, you delete it.’ You saw at that time, I probably would have got fined for stuff I said, but I had to take that into consideration. But it’s all good. I ain’t tripping on that no more.”

Further, it was great to see that Ja Morant also added that he soon realized the foul that caused his injury was not intentional at all. Jordan Poole took responsibility and apologized, which certainly made things easier. And Ja also appreciated his counterpart.

“Even when we were back at Golden State when I was walking on the court, [Poole] asked me was I good? Dapped me up. Even some of their other players asked me on the side as well … That’s what it’s all about. We all at the end of the day, care for each other, all want everybody to succeed. So I don’t think there’s too many dirty players in this league to go and do anything,” the 2020 Rookie of the season Ja explained.

“But after that, frustrated, in pain, not knowing what the results were going to be at the time. My mind pretty much was all over the place. So there’s a lot of frustration that went into that and then after the first incident where everybody was trying to bash my teammate not even knowing that he apologized and stuff like he didn’t mean to do it, that went into play, too.” Ja also explained how the Dillon Brooks incident added fire to his emotions, at the time of sending the tweet.

Golden State Warriors went on to win the Championship and shut down all the doubters in the process. They resumed their supremacy in the league with the win but more importantly may have added one “rival team” to their list, as the Warriors and Grizzlies’ stars were still going back and forth even after the conclusion of the series and playoffs. Ja Morant had shown maturity by deleting the post, but the teams are strongly linked after their playoff meeting in 2022, and by the looks of it, the rivalry between the two sides will be exciting in the years to come.
