Ja Morant has drawn criticism from the basketball community due to his off-court antics, which will result in his team’s adversity next season. They will be without Ja for the initial 25 games as he serves a suspension, a consequence of multiple incidents involving him displaying a gun on Instagram Live. This suspension will significantly impact his team’s chances of making the playoffs or securing a higher seed.
Tee Morant, Ja’s father, discussed his son’s actions at the Up Next Elite Camp in New Orleans. He addressed Ja’s suspension, stating that it wasn’t the fault of the people around Ja that led to his troubles, but rather the decisions he made. Tee, who guided his son’s upbringing and shared valuable lessons with the young attendees of the camp, made these remarks.
“Make sure anytime y’all anywhere, know the capabilities of everybody around you,” Morant said. “My son didn’t get in trouble for the people around him, he got in trouble for his decisions so, always be mindful of every decision y’all [are making]. Because, it could pretty much, take over you and can consume you and make you think that you’re who you’re not,” Tee Morant said.
What is the drama surrounding Ja Morant?
Ja Morant has recently been involved in several controversies. He is set to serve a 25-game suspension at the beginning of the next season. This suspension was issued because he displayed a gun on an Instagram live session with a friend. This incident is not the first of its kind, as Ja had previously received an 8-game suspension for a similar act at a strip club on another Instagram live broadcast.
As an ambassador for brands like Powerade and Nike, the companies didn’t want Ja advertising them amidst rising controversy. The parent company of Powerade, Coca-Cola, removed advertisements featuring Morant, while Nike postponed the launch of his signature shoe, the Ja 1s.
In the past, Ja had faced accusations of threatening a mall guard in Memphis, and shortly after, he was accused of assaulting a teenager during a pickup basketball game he organized. He was also accused by Indiana Pacers players of pointing a laser, allegedly from a gun, from a car where he was with his friends.
Ja has issued multiple apologies and fans are hopeful that he can change his behavior and contribute to his team’s championship aspirations. The team recently acquired Marcus Smart from the Boston Celtics, and fans believe Smart’s veteran presence could positively influence Morant’s mindset and potentially lead to a championship victory in the future.
