Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant is ready to return from his 25-game suspension. The Grizzlies held a press conference yesterday with Morant talking to the media for the first time before his impending return.

Ja Morant has been the subject of a lot of disappointments throughout the past two seasons. His decisions to showcase firearms on social media, assault allegations, etc. have taken a toll on the young superstar’s fame and name. His return from the suspension is due on 19th December. While speaking to the press at the Grizzlies media center, Morant said:

I’ve made a lot of my mistakes. Even with my family. Not some that has even been public. Even with my family. I’ve done a lot, lot of learning and teaching, grateful for the opportunity to reflect.

Morant has been clear about his guilt towards whatever has happened over the past year. He knows what he is saying now is all words, and his actions will speak for him down the road.

The Memphis Grizzlies have had a dismal year so far. They are currently second last in the Western Conference with a 6-18 record. Key absentees for the Grizzlies this season so far have been Ja Morant, Steven Adams, and Marcus Smart whom they traded for this off-season. But even with the All-Star level efforts of Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies are having a tough time in the heavily loaded West. Morant is eager to get back to court and play the game which he considers is therapeutic for him.

In contrast with Morant in their lineup, the Grizzlies have finished 2nd in the Western Conference standings in each of the last two seasons. Playoffs disappointments aside, Morant has played at an elite level for the Grizzlies. He averaged 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 8.1 assists last season. More than that Morant was the de facto leader of the Grizzlies. His grit and motivation have enabled his teammates to push the Grizzlies up the standings.

Ja Morant’s history caught up with him

Back in February this year during a game against the Indiana Pacers, Ja Morant, his father Tee, and his friend Davonte Pack got into heated confrontations with Pacers players. After the game, the confrontations continued near the Pacers team bus. Pacers players and security staff noted that a red laser was pointed at the bus from an SUV Morant was riding in. They believed it to be from a gun. NBA investigations did not conclude the presence of weapons.

Later in March, Morant showcased a gun during an Instagram Live feed from his account while in a Colorado nightclub. This led to suspensions from the team and the league totaling 8 games. In May, Morant was seen live on his friend Pack’s Instagram live feed with a gun again. This time Adam Silver, the NBA commissioner mentioned his shock at seeing a repeat of Morant’s problems. The NBA suspended Morant for 25 games provided he took part in a league-sponsored well-being program.

Now returning from that suspension, Morant wants his actions to do the talking. And by that, he means his play on the basketball court, nothing else. The basketball world will watch how this young superstar’s career unfolds.
