Despite the Conference Finals’ exciting matchups, the NBA is now swarming around an incident off the basketball. The entire NBA fraternity was shocked after Ja Morant was seen flashing a gun for the second time on Instagram Live. The young Memphis Grizzlies star has repeated the incident for the second time in three months now. The first happened in March 2023, during the regular season.

After screen grabs and short clips of the video went viral, fans and critics began bashing the young guard for his irresponsible behavior. After all, the repeated offense could put his entire NBA career at risk. The first penalty given to Morant was an eight-game suspension. A lenient punishment, according to some. However, many are calling for stricter action. Amid all the noise, Ja Morant finally broke his silence.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter, this is what Ja Morant had to say about his recent incident.“I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me. This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”

Initially, the NBA spokesperson, Mike Bass, issued a small statement. “We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information,” he said. The NBA has now launched an investigation to look into the matter.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently spoke to Malika Andrews from ESPN about the incident. He expressed his shock and disappointment, too, as he said, “I was shocked when I saw this weekend that video. We’re in the process of investigating it, and we’ll figure out exactly what happened to the best we can. The video is a bit grainy and all that, but I’m assuming the worst.

Ja Morant was reported to be struggling with mental health issues, namely anxiety. However, the guard did attend a short counseling session during his earlier eight-game suspension.

It is quite clear that not a lot of fans and critics are willing to stand up for the young guard. Apart from his irresponsible behavior, many are disapproving of him giving into the USA’s gun culture. Amid speculations, the final penalty for Morant by the NBA is yet to be made.
