“I’m tired, physically and mentally, this series was a battle” Ja Morant gets brutally honest as Grizzlies move past Timberwolves to face Warriors

Ja Morant and Memphis Grizzlies

Ja Morant and his young team have been one of most consistent squads on court, with considerably lesser injuries and maximum results. The 22-year-old All-Star made revelations on the fatigue and tiring levels after the series against Minnesota Timberwolves and upcoming Warriors challenge.

Memphis Grizzlies finally got over the Minnesota Timberwolves hurdle in the first round of the 2022 playoffs. Ja Morant won his 1st ever playoff series as he and his team fell short against Utah Jazz last season. But their current progression took lots from the young side. Memphis took 6 games to close down the resilient Timberwolves side, where they split the 4-game regular season series equally. Ja Morant, Dillon Brooks, and Desmond Bane led the team offense whereas experienced Steven Adams, Clarke, and Jaren Jackson Jr. added defensive steel to the team.

After averaging 35+ minutes in 6 playoff games and nearly similar minutes in regular-season matches, Ja Morant and Desmond Bane must have been physically exhausted. Morant accepted the toll of games as he said“Right now? We’re leaving, tired man what physically mentally. This was the series was you know a bottle. Coming in we knew with this team that we wouldn’t win this series in one game. We knew every game would be a dog fight and that we had to come in, locked in, and bring our energy from the starting.”

Memphis Grizzlies’ team rise this season was one of the biggest surprises to many. All Credit goes to the team, young stars, and coaching staff for the huge leap of 12 positions in the league from last season’s standings. In 2021 Grizzlies had a .528 record and were 14th in the league, but heroics from superstar Ja Morant and the team’s very potent support cast bettered it with a .683 record and finished just behind conference rivals Phoenix Suns in the league.

Wherein the 3-time champion team (nearly the core won its championship 3 times together) had some hick-up in the regular season, fared poorly against the Grizzlies in particular with a 1-3 series record. But they have come up strong in the postseason. Offensively, their stars are firing on all cylinders, and defensively Green, Kaminga, and Payton Jr are holding off the opponents nicely.

Encounters between MVP Steph Curry, his splash brothers vs 2022 most improved player Ja Morant and his talented shooters will be interesting to watch. Some extra rest days and form might benefit the Warriors in conference semis, but valiant Grizzlies are certainly not a pushover by any means.
