Ja Morant came to the Shelby County Circuit Court in Memphis, testifying against charges of assault towards a teenager. This stems from a lawsuit by the teenager who alleged that Morant and his friend Davonte Pack assaulted and threatened him. The teenager claimed this happened while playing pick-up basketball.

During the first session, Morant was bizarrely asked by his own lawyer to replicate a basketball check pass. This time, it was the opposition’s turn. Lawyer Rebecca Adelman represented the teenager Joshua Holloway, who Morant allegedly punched. During her round of questioning, Adelman asked, “Are those real diamonds?“. To this, Morant replied:

I mean I'm a millionaire.

Holloway alleged that Morant threw several punches at him, while Davonte Pack added in an additional 4-5 punches. Later, as per Holloway, Morant was seen coming out of his house with a gun in his hand.

Morant has gone on record saying that he punched Holloway in self-defense. Currently, his lawyers are finding ways to dismiss the case. If the court decides that Morant should be penalized for his actions, he will face a trial in April 2024.

The current state of affairs of Ja Morant

Ja Morant is currently serving his suspension. After initially receiving a suspension for eight games, Morant was suspended again for showcasing assault weapons on social media. He is now two games away from completing his 25-game suspension as enforced by the NBA.

Over the past year, several analysts have asked Morant to take a look back at his life. Some argued that he did not need to lead a life of violence, considering what he could do with his incredible talent on the basketball court.

Now, the basketball world will have to wait and see how Morant behaves going forward. Hopefully, he has changed his life. Otherwise, the league might have to put their foot down. The Grizzlies need Ja to make an impactful return to make the playoffs.
