Superstar Ja Morant‘s return to the NBA finished with a storybook ending. This follows his 25-game suspension by the NBA from the start of this league season. His return was dramatic, as he led his Memphis Grizzlies to win against the New Orleans Pelicans.

During the press conference held last week, Morant said he might need some time to return to full speed. After breaking a long-standing NBA record for most points scored on return from 25 games out, Morant did one better. He drove to the basket with 4 seconds with the game tied at 113 and dropped the game-winning shot. After the game, running back to the changing room, Morant shouted:

I kept receipts, too.

What he meant was that everyone talked about certain other players taking over as the best young players in the League. His shout-out was to remind people that he kept those receipts.

The NBA suspended Ja Morant for 25 games due to the possession and display of firearms on social media. During the press conference last week, attending reporters asked about his opinion about other players in the league taking over his mantle. Morant acknowledged Tyrese Haliburton and Anthony Edwards for their stellar play this season.

However, it seems the two-time All-Star was annoyed by the media picking other players before him as the best young athletes. His performance in this game against the New Orleans Pelicans and the subsequent shout-out was a reminder that the media and fans might have been wrong to forget about him.

Ja Morant returns with a point to prove!

Ja Morant has had a stellar career so far. Drafted by the Grizzlies as the second overall pick in 2019. Morant amassed two All-Star appearances and was widely considered as the future face of the NBA. He averaged 22.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 7.4 assists during the regular season for the Memphis Grizzlies in his first four years in the league.

Morant was initially compared to Zion Williamson, who was drafted before him by the Pelicans. Williamson still has not shown his elite talent on a consistent level. But Morant won the Rookie of The Year award ahead of Williamson in their first season. Other young stars seemed to have taken his mantle during his absence.

In his absence, Haliburton and Edwards have performed magnificently. It has led some of the skeptics and fans to dismiss Morant as one of the top young players in the league. However, Morant just showed the media and the fans what they were missing after returning from suspension. His shout-out about keeping receipts was intended to remind everyone that he is the future face of the NBA.
