Latest Ja Morant injury update NOT POSITIVE for Grizzlies ahead of Game 2 against LeBron James and Lakers
Ja Morant
The Memphis Grizzlies will host the Lakers in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series on Wednesday. After losing Game 1, the margin of error for Memphis has already diminished significantly. The add to their woes, the status of superstar guard Ja Morant is still unclear.
Morant injured his right hand in Game 1 after landing on it following a collision right under the rim. X-rays suggested that he did not fracture his hand, much to the relief of the Grizzlies and their fans, who are already playing without center Steven Adams. The Grizzlies haven’t confirmed Morant’s status for Game 2 yet, claiming his availability will be a game-time decision.
With under 24 hours to Game 2, Morant is still recovering from his injury. He was spotted in practice with a right hand heavily taped. He was practicing shooting with his left hand and still sinking shots with relative ease.
However, that doesn’t suggest that Morant will play in Game 2. Even if he does, he’ll probably play under minute restrictions. If Morant fails to recover in time for Game 2, Ty Jones will start for the Grizzlies. While their All-Star’s guard absence will be a huge blow, the Grizzlies will believe that Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. can lead the team to a victory over the Lakers.

Ja Morant’s absence would be advantageous for LeBron James and the Lakers
The Lakers, on the other hand, will fancy themselves to score a victory in Game 2 and head home with an opportunity to finish the series in four games. Coming out of the Play-In, this would be a great feat for the Lakers if they get past the Grizzlies. However, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and co. will not take their advantageous position lightly, knowing well that Bane, Dillion Brooks, and Jackson Jr. can lead their team to a win in Game 2.
The Lakers missed the playoffs last year and were eliminated in the first round in 2021. After two rough seasons, they are back again in the playoffs and are in pretty good shape in their first-round series. Will James and his team seize the opportunity and head back to Los Angeles with a 2-0 lead? We’ll find out soon.
