Many believe that over time, the NBA Dunk Contest has lost much of its magic. The fact that practically every dunk has been attempted at this stage contributes much, but so does the absence of celebrity involvement. Ja Morant’s name is making waves among NBA fans because of his condition for joining the Dunk contest.
The NBA All-Star Slam Dunk competition on Saturday night left spectators wanting more. Requests were made for some of the top NBA scorers, which resulted in the signing of Memphis Grizzlies point guard, Ja Morant. If he got paid, he suggested that he might show up. In response to a post requesting $1 million to enable Morant to participate in the competition, the Grizzlies player offered a straightforward emoji that seemed to imply he would take the offer.
In 2021, Ja Morant informed Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report that he would only think about competing in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest if he received a $1 million payment. Therefore, after Saturday’s event, a fan asked anyone who would listen to give Morant the money. Morant had a unique response.
Morant’s remarks from 2021 about the Dunk Contest, along with his doubts about ever taking part, are still relevant today. However, It would be exciting to have him in the competition, for sure. He is currently out of the ongoing NBA season after sustaining a shoulder injury.
Fans react to Ja Morant’s response to a fan pleading with him to join the NBA Dunk Contest
With some of the greatest poster dunks in recent years, Morant is recognized as one of the NBA’s top in-game dunkers. Fans were clamoring for him to play in the all-star tournament because he’s one of the NBA’s rising point guard prospects. And because of his own words, this time for the Dunk Contest.
On social media, people were screaming his name on handles like X. People’s response to his comment was generally agreed: give him $1 million. Here are some of the fan reactions:
Among the NBA’s top dunkers, Morant also appears to possess the hang time and strength. Required to transfer his in-game dunking prowess to a Dunk Contest environment. Maybe Morant will be more willing to participate in the Dunk Contest if he is selected to the All-Star team next season.
As things stand, Morant is now sidelined and was thus, unable to take part in any All-Star Weekend activities this season. He will undoubtedly be at the top of the list of players that fans would want to see in San Francisco next year.
