Ja Morant and his cryptic message on his Instagram Story

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant posted a series of cryptic messages on Instagram on Wednesday, saying goodbye to his family members before writing “bye” on his final story. The posts, which he later deleted, came after he was suspended for the second time in two months for flashing a gun on social media.

Morant, 23, is one of the most talented young players in the NBA, but he has also been involved in several off-court controversies that have put his career and reputation at risk. On May 13, a video circulated on Twitter showing Morant holding what appeared to be a gun in a car with his friend Davante Pack.

The video was captured from an Instagram Live by the account “_dtap2.” The Grizzlies suspended Morant from all team activities the next day, and the NBA is investigating the incident.

This was not the first time Morant was caught with a gun on social media. On March 4, he was seen on Instagram Live brandishing a gun at a strip club in Colorado. He left the team and entered a counseling program and was later banned for eight games by the NBA. He apologized and said he did not own the gun.

It’s not who I am. I don’t condone any type of violence, but I’ve taken responsibility for my actions,” Morant told ESPN’s Jalen Rose on March 15.

Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous,” Adam Silver said. “It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him.” Morant returned to the court on April 12 and played well in the playoffs, averaging 24.6 points, 7.0 assists and 6.8 rebounds in six games against the Lakers. However, his latest video could result in a longer suspension and more damage to his image.

Morant has not commented on the video or his Instagram posts, which he deleted shortly after posting them. However, some fans have expressed concern and support for him on social media, while others have criticized him for being irresponsible and immature.

Morant’s Instagram stories on Wednesday were addressed to his sister Teniya, who recently committed to play basketball at Mississippi Valley State; his mom Jamie, who watched him practice; his dad Tee, who hugged him; and his daughter Kaari, whom he called “the greatest babygirl.” The final photo was of Morant getting interviewed on the court, on which he wrote, “bye.”

It is unclear what Morant meant by his posts or what his current state of mind is. However, it is clear that he is facing some serious challenges both personally and professionally, and that he needs to find a way to overcome them before it is too late.
