The Memphis Grizzlies are down 2-3 in the first round versus the Los Angeles Lakers. In the last postseason, they were eliminated in the second round. For the past couple of seasons, things haven’t been the best for Memphis, but their future does seem promising. The team has a young core, and with current progress, they can definitely touch new heights.
Led by Ja Morant, the team has all their aspects covered, from shooting to rim protection. While they still struggle to get past the second round, the team’s players seem pretty optimistic. Morant, who has been averaging around 28 points in this series believed to be the strongest team in the West.
In an interview with Malika Andrews, Morant held his honest thoughts on playing in the heavily competitive Western Conference. Going against some of the tough teams in the postseason, Ja only had eyes on the prize. In the East, the Boston Celtics have come out to be the most dominant squad, and Ja only seemed to be worried about them. Though this interview has been on the internet for a while, it comes to light as the Memphis Grizzlies trail in the first round.
When asked a team that the Grizzlies would have a tough time with, Ja said, “Celtics. Nah, I’m fine in the West.”. This had fans on Twitter questioning Ja’s comments as the Grizzlies trail 2-3 in the first round versus the team who came out of the Play-In, the Lakers. The Grizzlies have lacked on the defensive end as well as on the offense versus the Lakers. However, their hopes are still alive to get through the first round.
Ja Morant may have to look at the West again
As the postseason moves forward, quite a few teams have established themselves as the favorites to win the East. The Denver Nuggets advanced to the second round after dealing with the Wolves in five games. At the same time, the Phoenix Suns played the Los Angeles Clippers to advance to the Semis. Both teams have been solid in the first round, putting up a huge doubt if Morant and company would consider these teams fine for them. Twtteratis gave Morant a reality check after the Grizzlies lost Game 4 versus the Lakers.
Even without injuries and other setbacks, the Grizzlies didn’t seem like the team they were last year. After a comfortable Game 5 victory, Memphis keeps their hopes alive to win the series. Do you think the Grizzlies will push to Game 7 against the LA Lakers? Let us know in the comments.
