“He’s done with MIP..coming for MVP” Ja Morant’s shocking no-look pass to Brandon Clarke erupts the entire FedEx Forum
Ja Morant
Memphis Grizzlies’ point guard Ja Morant emerged as one of the brightest talents of modern-day basketball after the 2021-22 season. Having heaps of expectations bundled upon his shoulders everyone saw him accomplish those in his team’s season opener against New York Knicks, at FedExForum. Be it with his incredible no-look dimes, or clutch plays, this sensation was all over the floor.
With the team seemingly playing in high spirits, the home audience needed one more Ja Morant highlight against the New York Knicks in overtime on Wednesday night. After the defense disintegrated, Morant drove the ball and booted it to a wide-open Tyus Jones. Jones lowered his arms and turned to face the fans as he put the game away.
Ja Morant appeared to be delighted with himself when he faked a left-handed pass behind his back and then fired a no-look assist to Clarke. Morant stepped over the halfcourt line and back to the Grizzlies huddle as the Knicks took a timeout, his arms held wide and a look of disbelief on his face. That is where Morant ended up. He ended with 34 points, continuing his highlight-reel performance. Morant had six turnovers but nine assists and shot 11-for-24.
Ja Morant leads his Grizzlies against the Knicks at home
In front of a loud crowd at FedExForum, the Grizzlies defeated the Knicks 115-112. Interestingly, the Western Conference side led by as many as 19 points with to strong shooting performances by Morant, Desmond Bane, John Konchar, and Santi Aldama. While the Grizzlies played solid defense, each player made at least three 3-pointers. Memphis opened a 19-point lead in the third quarter, but defensive lapses contributed to a Knicks comeback.
After Knicks’ Cam Reddish hit a 3-pointer in the waning seconds, the game went into overtime. The Grizzlies ended with a 38.9% shooting percentage, while the Knicks finished with a 40.4%. Morant ended with 34 points (11-24 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 9-11 FT), four rebounds, nine assists, and one block in 38 minutes against New York on Wednesday.
Safe to say, the 23-year-old PG was a one-man highlight reel once again to start his fourth NBA season, leading all scorers and Grizzlies in assists. Morant had a career-high 27.4 points per game last season, and that number might rise even higher in 2022-23 as he learns to get to the free-throw line more frequently.
