“I played like dogsh**!” Jalen Brunson gets brutally honest after rare low-scoring game in modern NBA
Jalen Brunson was part of the two lowest scoring game in the past three years.
Jalen Brunson
Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks took on the Philadelphia Sixers at home this Sunday. The Sixers managed to secure the win after what seemed like a ’90s game.
The final score, 79-73, did not seem like any modern NBA game’s total. Both teams are fighting for the better seed, as the Knicks are 4th in the East, coming right after the elite squads, the Celtics, Bucks, and the Cavs.
Jalen Brunson led the team, putting up 19 points and 8 assists while shooting just 27% from the field. It wasn’t quite the game for Brunson, having made 6 of his 22 shots. However, the 27-year-old did not hesitate to take the blame himself. Following the game, Brunson’s reaction to his performance, as told by the Knicks’ writer Fred Katz, was no short of a brutal comment to himself.
I played like dog****. That’s it.said Brunson postgame
Donte DiVincenzo, on the other hand, had 15 for the night, while shooting as inconsistently from the field. Scoring just 73 points in Sunday’s game is incredibly low. With the current league average being 115, this was a rare low-scoring game. The Knicks have been putting up 112+ points a game themselves this season.
Jalen Brunson is having the best season of his career
Brunson has been filling up the stat sheet, playing the best he ever has. The Knick is averaging 27.1 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting over 40% from deep and 47% from the field. His two seasons with the Knicks have been fabulous so far, having produced more on the offensive end of the floor.
The Knicks have a solid roster, with endless assets, who can score as well as play defense. Guys like DiVincenzo and Isaiah Hartenstein are incredible players, and quite useful when it comes to the scoring end. It was surprising to see the Knicks and the Sixers finish the game under 80 points. Both squads are heavily talented, though registered the lowest-scoring game of 2024.
Two years ago, in 2022, New York held the record for the lowest-scoring game, putting up 75 points. It’s easy to point out the team’s bad days. Looking at the Knicks’ record, the team made it past the first round for the first time in a decade in the previous postseason. This time they’ll look to make a deeper run in the playoffs, with less than a month remaining to the end of the regular season.
