Jalen Brunson, earning his first NBA All-Star selection, delivered an MVP-caliber performance on a night when his team, dealing with a shortage of players due to injury, confronted the formidable Indiana Pacers. In line with his consistent season-long excellence, Brunson elevated his game, ultimately securing a triumphant victory for the New York Knicks.

Concluding the game with an impressive stat line of 40 points, five rebounds, and a solitary assist, Jalen Brunson showcased his scoring prowess. Despite a slow start with just two field goals in the first quarter and a single three-pointer throughout the game, he remarkably achieved his fourth 40-point effort of the season. Brunson’s stellar performance included shooting 15 out of 30 from the field, showcasing his efficiency across 37 minutes of intense gameplay.

Speaking to reporters after the game, he said:

It’s a great moment. Just the whole experience, the night, how we won, obviously what happened before the game. You always work for certain moments, but you never know how to react once it happens, it’s really special.

Currently, Brunson has the Knicks on a remarkable nine-game winning streak, positioning them just a half-game away from the second seed in the Eastern Conference. Notably, he is averaging an impressive 27.1 points, 6.4 assists, and shooting at an efficient 48 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range. He has already crafted numerous ‘special moments’ within just two years of the four-year, $104 million deal he signed last summer.

Following his instrumental role in leading the team to the second round of the playoffs last season, the 26-year-old point guard has responded with yet another career-defining year.

Jalen Brunson came close to an All-Star selection last year but narrowly missed the cut. Despite being a contender for All-NBA, Most Improved, and Most Clutch in the post-season awards, he didn’t secure a spot. This year, he demonstrated his prowess by ranking second in media voting for the starters (trailing only Tyrese Haliburton), third in player voting (behind Haliburton and Tyrese Maxey), and fifth in fan voting (following Haliburton, Trae Young, Damian Lillard, and Donovan Mitchell).

As a result, Brunson entered the pool of reserves, ultimately becoming an obvious choice for the coaches’ vote. The East’s starting lineup comprises Haliburton, Lillard, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and Jayson Tatum.
