Jalen Rose, Ime Udoka

Jalen Rose, an ESPN analyst received criticism for bringing up Ime Udoka’s infamous infidelity and speculated departure to the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night. After asking a question regarding the unnamed Celtics staff member who was supposedly linked with Udoka, Rose instantly apologized on the air.

Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka is now suspended indefinitely for an undetermined period of time for inappropriate behavior at work which is alleged to have been caused by an unethical and consensual relationship with a female employee of the Celtics. Now, a number of reports claim that the Brooklyn Nets intend to appoint Udoka as the team’s new head coach in place of Steve Nash. Speaking about the issue, Jalen Rose expressed his displeasure and urged that the woman’s name be made public but then, things took a turn.

Before a recent matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls, Rose questioned the following on ESPN’s “NBA Countdown” program stating: “We know his name. Maybe I’m missing something as it relates to the law, but don’t we know her name? It’s not like she’s a minor. I feel like we should know her name publicly as well.” Rose quickly changed his mind, although, and apologized later that night. He added: “I’m Jalen Rose and I would like to apologize for a comment I made earlier on NBA Countdown.”

Rose with the quickest apology after debating the Ime Udoka controversy

When Rose apologized during halftime the feed cut to a commercial immediately. After the apology, he continued: “I questioned why a woman’s name who had an alleged affair with Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, was not made public. After an internal investigation and it was discovered that she was a subordinate to the head coach, I now understand fully why her name should not be released to the public.” This was due to the widespread practice of concealing the identities of alleged sexual assault victims in legal proceedings and in journalism.

The Celtics kept the scandal-involved woman’s identity out of the public light because they obviously intended to protect her. Jalen Rose has sincerely apologized for his first demand and has genuinely changed his mind after realizing why this was the case. Unofficial confirmation of Udoka’s appointment as the Nets’ new head coach has not yet been made, but it is widely anticipated. Udoka was given a season-long suspension, but they agreed to let him speak with Brooklyn about the available coaching position.
