Amidst James Harden’s Adidas tour to China, there are speculations that he will sign with some team in the Chinese Basketball league due to the sheer numbers he is pulling in to support the Harden Brand. Ever since he spoke against Daryl Morey’s anti-China comments, he has grown his brand there, with people supporting him and his ideology.

Because of this, there have been rumors of him playing there and ditching the back and forth he has to indulge in to secure and force a trade out of the Philadelphia Sixes. Stephon Marbury spoke about the same, saying, “It’s always good to see guys from the NBA try China and play…It would be good for basketball to see James play in China. It’s basketball. It’s an opportunity to play. But I don’t think he’s coming. I think he’s gonna get another big contract in the NBA, though.”

While this may surprise many, Marbury said that Harden will not trade to China and will secure another big trade in the NBA itself. He has had some experience in the Chinese league, as he played there from 2010-2018, and is currently the head coach of Beijing Royal Fighters.

James Harden has, time and again, shown his love for the country. Recently, while talking to NBC, he said, “Every time I come here, the love is just like … it’s crazy…You know what I mean? So I feel like they deserve to actually see me come play here. … Love is always crazy here,”

With him flirting with the idea of actually playing there, people’s expectations in China and outside of China have risen. While it may not be many people’s dream to play in the Chinese League, it is definitely not a bad option, given the amount of love and money he will be getting.

Keeping all this aside, the charm of the NBA cannot be looked down upon. Harden will indeed look for a ‘big contract’ as told by Marbury, especially after the pay cut he took last season to help the Philadelphia 76ers build. With his stats still better than many point guards in the league, averaging 21 points and 10.7 assists per game, he can indeed be an excellent addition to any team. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
